Question ID: 234676
I'm researching for a name for my business. The online/web based
business should feature a website in which individuals 18 and over can
log in and SELL or BUY any products. The products will range from
Houses, Automobiles to very small household items like PStation
controls. Will feature both auction and regular advertising until
products sell. Competitors will include EBay as well as UBid.com
The name must be short, easy to remember, easy to type with no typos
and must be professional. Name describing the business will be an
added advantage.

Dear Saddleridder-ga,

Thank you for your question. I like playing with words to compose a
name, so I came up with a list of nearly fifty options –trying
different combinations of a handful of concepts. Bad news first, most
of them were already registered .com domains. (Maybe some of them were
already famous online services I hadn’t heard about –I apologize if
so.) I listed them all the same, for I think it may be useful for you
to know that they’re already registered –or even you may want to if
any of them is for sale. Anyway, seventeen of them remained still
available, and I hope you can find yours among them, or at least a
lead for inspiration. Additionally, I checked up for the names
suggested in comments. I did all of the checking up at Verio (
http://hosting.verio.com/ ).

NOT available ones:

easy-trader
e-showroom
showroom
virtual-showroom
big-deal
best-deal
max-biz
max-store
great-biz

cyber-deal

web-trader

Still available

v-showroom
deal-with-me

Suggestions in comments NOT available:

sellbuyauction
buybuybaby (pity! was my favorite!)
buybaby (I tried it as an alternative)

Suggestions in comments STILL available:

sellthisbuythat
buy-sell-now
buybabybuy (I tried this alternative too, and this one IS available)

Hope this helps!

Regards,

Guillermo

I hadn't seen "boughtitnow" before I posted my answer, but it's dated
earlier, so I checked it up: it's available!

New ideas (all available)

virtual-bazaar
max-bazaar
bazaar-max

I also tried options like web-bazaar or e-bazaar, but were
unavailable. As I intend to consider not only the concept but the way
it “sounds” also, I wouldn’t suggest combinations such as easy-bazaar
or cyber-bazaar, because they don’t’ sound euphonic to me. But that is
subjective and you may like them, so I checked them anyway and they’re
available.

Regards,

Guillermo

3 tips on nameing a business or product in a competitive market:

1. Define what is going to cause people to use your site instead of
your competitors like Ebay - and then choose a name that highlights
that.

2. The name should make the cusotmer look good and feel good about
him/herself. Not make you look good.

3. The name should be no more than 4 sylabals, easily spelled, easily
pronounced. Otherwise it will not be remembered.

Hope this helps.
