Question ID: 234939
There are several Adobe Photoshop 7 for Mac OS X .exe files available
for download in Kazaa. I have failed to open them on either Mac or
Windows. On some, stuff-it for Windows begins to extract them but then
I get an "algorithm::arsenic::CRC checksum mismatch..." error message.
So my question is, can anyone give me a way to successfully extract any of those
files on either platform?

Try this utility:
http://www.maczipit.com/

I believe this shareware utility is able to decompress zipped
self-extracting archives. Try it - your mileage may vary. Let me know
if it does work - I can post it as an answer =)

Thanks but unfortunately, it didn't. (just gave me an "...Are you sure
this is a zip file?..." error message.)

It's possible that those files were compressed in a PC-only format
rather than Mac. Being .exes, they'll decompress only in the OS which
they were made in. Not that I want to dash your hopes, but I see no
way around it, honestly.

Just because it's a compressed exe file does not mean it can not be
decompressed on a Mac or non-Windows machine. "checksum mismatch"
means the file is junked download it again. You can use (in Mac OS X)
unzip (the command line utility) and or StuffIt Expander. But... Since
the file is junked... well you can't use those.

Lastly I wouldn't want to be more blunt but... is this illegal
software we're talking about?
