I am attempting to find an ELMO TRV 8 or S8 to convert 8mm film into a
video format. I currently have no price range, so please provide me
with any and all contacts that you can find. I've exhausted myself
looking all over the net for these units, so if you can find one, I

The ELMO TRV S8 and TRV 8 seem indeed to be both highly treasured and
extremely hard to get. It was like searching the proverbial needle in
a haystack, but I finally was able to locate one single (!) source for
a TRV-S8, Wittner Kinotechnik, a German company dealing in cinematic
equipment. They offer the following on their website (translated from
German):

"ELMO TRV S8
ELMO converter for S8 movies, both color and b/w, both with and
without soundtrack. Play-back device with implemented CCD color camera
(PAL), duo magnetic sound sampling, PAL output. Correction of lens
aperturs, light, and color possible. Repurchase from former center of
distribution. Device unused and in original packaging!

The final price (excl. shipping) of EUR 6960.00 equals US-$ 7986.60
(as of 25 July). The video output in European PAL video format might
be a nuisance if you are located in the USA, but PAL VHS tapes can, as
you surely know, be converted to NTSC.

Wittner Kinotechnik ships internationally. However, for orders from
abroad, they demand payment in advance via bank transfer.
Alternatively, delivery per C.O.D. can be arranged by request.
You can contact Wittner Kinotechnik for ordering and negotiate the
payment and delivery details; but please note that they will have
their annual vacation close-down from 28 June to 15 August, so you

ps, PAL provides a better quality transfer than NTSC if captured
digitally. ie, using the TRV's component out into a pc via a capture
card.
