I'm a semi-practicing Catholic, in that I retain the Catholic beliefs and faith that the church teaches, but I reject all of the authority from the Vatican and the church itself. My question is- Are there others like me, possibly organized or calling themselves something other than Catholic? If not, how does one branch out from a religion and found a sect thereof? |

Greetings again, RolandTheGunslinger: I believe the organization you are seeking is The Association for the Rights of Catholics in the Church (ARCC, founded 1980). Their main website is located at http://arcc-catholic-rights.org/ The statement of their mission as an organizations reads "To bring about substantive structural change in the Catholic Church, ARCC seeks to institutionalize a collegial understanding of Church in which decision-making is shared and accountability is realized among Catholics of every kind and condition. It affirms that there are fundamental rights which are rooted in the humanity and baptism of all Catholics. To this end ARCC developed and works to implement a Charter of the Rights of Catholics in the Church and a Proposed Catholic Constitution." Contact info is: ARCC PO Box 85 Southampton, MA 01073 Phone: 413.527.9929 Fax: 413.527.5877 mailto:arccangel@charter.net At http://arcc-catholic-rights.org/rights33.htm on the same site is an article titled "A Question of Rights - The Vatican: "V" is For Vindictive" by James E. Biechler. This article seems to address concerns that the Catholic church memebrs have regarding various Vatican policies. You may examine other documents at http://arcc-catholic-rights.org/documents.htm ********* Another organization is Catholics for a Free Choice. You may read about that organization beginning at http://www.cath4choice.org/aboutus.htm Article by them (free online and for order) may be accessed through http://www.cath4choice.org/article.htm. They seem a very progressive Catholic group. Here's a link transcript of a radio broadcast where the CFFC addresses lobbying to downgrade the Vatican's status at the UN: http://www.seechange.org/media/religious%20report.htm In part: "Catholics for a Free Choice, an organisation which opposes the church's stance on abortion and family planning, is heading a global campaign for change, on the grounds that religion and the State shouldn't mix." Here is the URL for a lengthy list of press releases from CFFC: http://www.cath4choice.org/new/pressrelease/press.htm ********* The two organizations above featured most prominent in my searches. I believe both may be of interest to you. To Rolandthegunslinger. It seems like you have joined the ranks of many people who have finally seen the failings of the Catholic Church and its teachings. May I resoectfully suggest you go back and re- study the Bible. But don`t just study parts of it. Treat it as a complete whole. Search for the religious group that does exactly what God wants. For example, Matthew 6; 9,10 the standard " Lord`s Prayer". Jesus said " You must pray, then, this way. Our Father [creator, maker] in the heavens [existing in heaven] [ Jesus was talking about His own Father, not himself, so Jesus is not God] " Let your Name [ Jehovah,Yahweh, Y.H.W.H. the Tetragrammaton] be sanctified. God is a title, not His Name. Let your Kingdom come [ Jesus preached God`s Kingdom to all who would listen. He trained all his disciples to preach the Kingdom. Common sense dictates that one man alone or even 12 extra could not accomplish a worldwide preaching work. " Let your will take place, as in heaven, also upon earth. Certainly, the earth today is not exhibiting Love, and God is Love First John 4;16. The only religious group that is acceptable to God is the one that exactly follows the directions given by Jesus. Any so called Christian religion that is bound up with traditional ways, was warned against by Jesus. Jesus said about the Jewish religious leaders of his day, at Matthew 15;8. " Thbis people honour me with their lips, yet their heart is far removed from me. 9. it is in vain that they keep worshipping me, because they teach commands of men, as doctrines. And finally, as to whether individual people are given insight asw to the truths in the Bible, the scripture at Haggai 2;1 says " And I will rock all the nations, and the desirable things [ people] of all the nations must come in. And I will fill this house with glory, Jehovah of armies has said. Thats His armies of Angels, He is not blessing our armies. What religion uses God`s name, has members worldwide, is not traditional, everyone preaches, obeys all the Bibles laws, and constantly uses the Bible. Search on. |

And p.p.s. Doesn`t at all get involved with ANYTHING political. Worldly, State, Local, or Action groups. Ecclesiastes 8;9. Man has dominated man to his injury. Jeremiah 10;23, Genesis 8;21, 2 Timothy 3;1-4. Psalms 146;3,4. I`m sorry, but due to its track record, the Catholic Church just doesn`t qualify. |

Thanks for the advice...but...like I said, I retain the Catholic beliefs and teachings of the life of Christ and the faith of His return. I didn't express a searching for a new religion or a replacement of my own beliefs that have already been in place now for 38 years. I am looking for others with similar beliefs to mine. I am looking for other Catholics who, like me, do not agree with the absolute power that the Vatican has bestowed upon itself. The teachings of the church are worthy. It is the corruption of the authority in place in Rome that is disturbing to me. While they are telling us to give to the poor throughout our lifetimes they are hoarding billions of dollars in wealth and do nothing themselves about the suffering throughout the world. This is what I reject, not the basic Catholicism. |
