Years ago, people used to collect photographs of family get togethers,
vacations and parties in to a large book called a scrapbook. Now, this
has evolved into a serious hobby with web sites, stores and clubs for
what used to be just gluing photos into an empty book.
This seems like a tangent of Martha Stewart household cutsiness.
Why and when did keeping a scrapbook evololve into "scrapbooking?"
Thanks,
Yesmam

Hello yesmam,

Several web pages indicate that the modern "scrapbooking" phenomenon
began in 1980, when the Christensen family of Utah introduced it at
the World Conference of Records, a genealogy conference in Salt Lake
City. It seems that it tapped into a trend for genealogy and family
records, sparked by Alex Haley's Roots.

Great work "justaskscott."
I thought that it was more inspired by an attack of insipid cuteness
by the back to "Martha Stewart housewifeyness" than anything that was
something even vaguely related to something serious.Personally, all
the tinted tin and doily edged stuff is tacky, but...
Thanks again for your good work,
Yesmam
