Hi.

Here's the answer. I hope you'll find it helpful.

1 meter = 100 cm

1 furlong   = 201.168 meters = 201.168 x 100 cm = 20116.8 cm
10 furlongs = 10 x 20116.8 cm = 201168 cm

1 inch     =     2.54 cm
y inches   =   201168 cm  (=10 furlongs)

This should be read : "one inch equals 2.54 cm; how many inches equal
201168 cm?"

So "y" is the unknown.

y = (1 inch x 201168 cm)/(2.54 cm) = 79200 inches

1 foot   =       12 inches
z feet   =    79200 inches

Similarly:

z = (1 x 79200)/12 = 6600 feet

So a 10 furlong race has 6600 feet.
