Hello there

The July 21st article about Bush's African trip is here:
http://tinyurl.com/i7a4

I'm not sure it has the exact text you are looking for but it is the
right date and the only article in Newsweek about Bush and Africa
found in Newsweek for that date. The reason I'm not sure about the
text is that a registration is required and the price for a single
article is $2.95.

This is a case where I'm breaking the rules and posting a possible
answer as a request for clarification and trust that if it is the
right article you will let me know.

Cheers
digsalot

The story included information about the fact that Mr. Bush was
accompanied by NationalSecurity advisor Rice and Secretary (of State
Colin Powell at the time he was visiting Senegal's historic old
"slave-holding" area and viewing the chains, etc.

Further information was that a platform had been constructed by Mr.
Bush's "people" which was placed where the viewing/listening
audiences could see the setting, and that while the others were "damp
and rumpled", the President of the US was being kept cool by an air
conditioner running "full blast" underneath, (and hidden by) the
platform.

Dear Seekinganswer,

In a review of Bush's visit to Senegal, Time Magazine mentioned the
air conditioning issue: "Even when the president leaned in to the
crowd to shake hands, few rose to snatch a moment with him. Those who
did seemed to receive a double dose from an energetic president who
looked well cooled by an air conditioning vent built into the platform
to push cool air directly under the speaker's feet." (Source: JOHN
DICKERSON, "In Senegal, Bush Speaks Against Slavery", Times Magazine,
July 9th, 2003 <http://www.time.com/time/world/article/0,8599,463671,00.html>).

The Dallas Morning News also refers to this: "A plywood platform was
built over a newly poured concrete foundation for the president's
speech outside the island's old stone fort, now a museum. An
air-conditioning duct was cut just behind the president's bulletproof
[sic.] lectern to provide some relief on a hot, hazy day." (Source: G.
ROBERT HILLMAN, "Bush seeks to end slavery's legacy", The Dallas
Morning News, <http://gold.classifieds.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dallas/world/stories/070903dnintbush.1101c.html>

I searched the Internet for the terms {bush "air conditioning"
Senegal} in order to locate the articles for you. I hope this answers
your question, but if you feel that you need clarifications on this
answer, please let me know before you rate the answer.

Sounds like something a self-centered preppy boy would do; ramble on
while people were miserably hot. Sound like W to be blithely
indifferent to other's discomfort. If El Chubo, Karl Rove were there,
they'd have to fan down that horrid porker as well.
