Hello.

According to a news report in the Orlando Sentinel, Charley Beals
became the youngest person ever elected to an office in Florida when
he won a seat on the Clermont council at age 20 in 1964.

"...Beals spent the past 30 years in public office and community
service. It started with his election to a Clermont council seat in
1964 at the age of 20, the youngest person ever to be elected to
office in Florida."

search strategy:
I used a newspaper database available through my local public library
to search:
"youngest person", elected, "in florida"

I hope this helps.

Hi.

Another individual who may have been elected at age 19 is Commissioner
Cari Ford Cahill of the Nassau County Port Authority Dist. 4.

On her web page, Ms. Ford-Cahill declares that in 1998 she was the
youngest person to hold elected office in the state of Florida.
http://www.carifordcahill.com/about.htm
On another web page, she states, "At 22, I am currently the youngest
elected official in the State of Florida."
http://users.fdn.com/~dcahill/wedding/cari.htm

Clearly, Cari Ford Cahill is not younger than Clay Yarborough. And
it's unclear exactly when she was 22. However, her web page refers to
an upcoming wedding. That wedding eventually was held on 3/17/2001.
It's unclear how far in advance of the wedding the "At 22..."
statement was made. Nevertheless, if we assume that she was 22 in
2001, she would have been around 19 on election day, 1998. Thus, Cari
Ford, like Clay Yarborough, also may have been elected to an office in
Florida at age 19.

Many thanks to my colleague Pinkfreud for alerting me about Ms.
Ford-Cahill.
