I am looking to find information/research and more so initial results
from a somewhat new liver cancer treatment in the US.

The treatment starts with 1 pill of "Rapamycin" per day.

To prevent virus deseases due to a weakened immune system, the
medicine "Cymene" or "Cymuene" for the first three months.

To prevent lung infection, the medicine "Bactrim" is given 3 times a
week /1 pill a day.

Again, looking to see what results this treatment have produced with
patients. If the treatment has helped and how much. If there has been
any sideeffects. Also, if there are any doctors or sites that can be
referenced or contacted for more information or continued help in this
matter.

I am working on your question but having a problem finding Rapamaycin.
Could it be listed under another name? Are you sure of the spelling?
Could it be listed under a different name?

Is this new treatment an alternative or herbal regimen? If so , can
you give me any idea how you heard about it? And, once again, any
possible other spellings of Rapamycin.

Thanks!

aroyochcarin-ga,

Okay, this is my last clarification request as I am starting to sound
a bit dense!

According to the National Cancer Institute, Sirolimus is the new drug
name given to Rapimycin.

Sirolimus:

"A drug used to help prevent the body from rejecting organ and bone
marrow transplants. It is also being studied as a treatment for
cancer. Sirolimus belongs to the family of drugs called
immunosuppressants. It was previously called rapamycin."

==

Cymene: (a natural substance)

p-Cymene is one of the alkyl-substituted aromatic hydrocarbons which
are found in volatile oils from over 100 plants
http://umbbd.ahc.umn.edu/pcy/pcy_map.html

I have found no reference to "Cymuene."

I have uncovered articles mentioning Rapamycin/sirolimus in liver
transplant rejection and kidney transplants. However, you have
specified liver cancer and not the actual transplant process.

I have found cymene mentioned in relation to homeopathic/alternative
remedies for viral disease. I have found no mention of the 3-part
regimen you outlined in your question. If you can clarify where you
heard about this therapy being performed, it would help a researcher
to search more efficiently.

I would be happy to research the contributions of each medicine/herbal
component to liver cancer if that would be an acceptable alternative.
However, if you can shed some more light on the background information
for your question, I hope to find a direct answer, if possible.

Here is some information to clarify:

The name of the medicine we were given here in Sweden is Rapamycin.
The names of the medicine might be spelled differently in the US.

The combination of medicines here has been offered as a new treatment
for a person that just found out that they have liver caancer. The
doctors here say it is a new treatment used in the US.

There will be no liver transplant and this combination of medicine
will serve as a treatment to keep the patient alive longer.

I am looking for the effect of this new combination of medicine as
this iss used as a treatment. Of course it would be good to find out
individual effects too. However, where have they tested this cure and
what are the initial results andside effects. Is there a site or
doctor that have done this that can be contacted.

I wanted to clarify that the reason the patient is not getting a
transplant is that the cancer is too large.

After having done some research, I would like to once again clarify
what I am looking for.

Specifically, if this particaular treatment (all 3 medicines) have
been used in combination to treat liver cancer before and what have
been the result of this treatment.

It is easy to find specific info about the different drugs, however
the reason I am asking for help is that I can't find the answer above
regarding the combination. Also, have a hard time finding any research
regarding rapamune having been used to treat liver cancer and what the
medicinee would actually do. The common use seem to be for organ
transplants.

I'm sorry, royochcarin....I cannot find anything about this particular
combination of drugs after several hours of searching.

Have you asked the hospital in Sweden for references to this treatment
in the US? That seems the most logical, since they were the ones that
specifically mentioned the use of this combination of therapies in the
United States. Was this a mainstream hospital, or an alternative
cancer clinic of some type? I ask this because of the referral to
Cymene.

You might try contacting:

The American Association for Cancer Research
615 Chestnut St., 17th Floor
Philadelphia, PA 19106-4404
Phone: (215) 440-9300

Also, while I have seen references to "clinical trials" involving the
use of Rapamycin in inhibiting cancer cells, I have not seen articles
in relation to liver cancer.

If there is any other way I can help you, I will be happy to try. Just
let me know!

Thank you so much for trying. I am starting to think that this is a
treatment in its testing stages and that it hasn't been commonly used
as of yet. Surprisingly enough, Sweden is sometimes ahead of the US in
medicine and maybe this is why we can't find an answer.

There is no answer at this time.

Is this primary liver cancer or is it another kind of cancer that has
gone to the liver? Is this cancer in an adult or a child?

I'm not finding anything in the National Library of Medicine on the
rapamycin/cymene combination. I think the Bactrim is most likely to
help prevent infection and probably isn't relevant as far as the
chemotherapeutic effect goes.

Cancer.gov (from the University of Bonn) has nothing on clinical
trials for sirolimus, rapamycin or cymene for adult primary liver
cancer.

I think going back to the doctors recommended this treatment to find
out where they heard of it would be the best bet.
