Dear Nick,
Nominet UK, the registry for .uk internet names, lists Graham Smith as
the owner of the site (see: Nominet UK Whois query,
<http://195.66.240.211/cgi-bin/whois.cgi?query=anythingcars.co.uk>).
However, it states that the status of the site is detagged, which
means it is inactive and ceased receiving server services such as an
email address or an active web site. That doesn't mean that the site
is free for registration, but this might happen - you could read more
about this status at http://www.nominet.org.uk/ref/detagged.html ,
they write there that "People who are seeking to register a domain
name that is detagged will need to wait until the domain name is
cancelled before they can re-register it. If you are in this
situation, we advise you to talk to your registration agent about how
they may help you to register the domain name as soon as it becomes
available. You may also wish to check the WHOIS regularly which will
show you the status of the domain name and will indicate when it has
been suspended and cancelled.".
I guess that your registration agent might speed things up, given that
the site seems to be detagged since April.
Search strategy: If you want to know who a certain site belongs to,
use a "Whois" (as in "who is") service, like those listed in Google
Directory : http://directory.google.com/Top/Computers/Internet/Domain_Names/Name_Search/?tc=1
. Later, type in the URL of the site, and you'll get the name of those
who registered the site.
I hope this answers your question. If you need any clarifications on
this answer, please let me know before you rate the answer. |
