Did the Catholic Church decree that the Pulpiti in Cathedrals should be removed? |

In short, no. Pulpits (It. pulpiti, Lat. pulpita) have been standard in Catholic churches and cathedrals since the Middle Ages. Pulpits evolved from the earlier "ambo" which had been a preacher's platform since the time of the Fathers of the Church. The modern style of ornamental pulpits is derived from that of thirteenth-century Italy. It is certain that at no time has the Church decreed that all pulpits in cathedrals be removed, as Catholic cathedrals continue to house pulpits, many of them originals from the Middle Ages and Renaissance.
