need to find out where that is

Bratslavka
Brashnikoff
Bratolyubov
Bratkovo
Bratchikovo
Breusenkovo

Could it be one of the above places?

There is also Breslov, a town in the Ukraine, that sounds similar to
what you might have heard your grandfather say.

helpful to know when your grandfather was born and how long he lived
there.

I agree with FP, the most logical explanation of the name you gave is Brest-Litovsk.

Agreeing with politicalguru I see no reason not to believe that
Brest-Litovsk is the place your grandfather mentioned.
