Hello talk2andrewc,
I put together a list of online resources you could draw from to make
your presentation, but I based the search on "LAN" rather than "WAN",
since I believe they are the same thing, though at different levels.
Would you accept this as an answer? Let me know. Thank you.

Hi,
Sorry I have sufficient information on LAN, and therefore am looking
for information for WAN. My understanding is that WAN have specific
issues such as finding "high sites", propogation studies etc. I am
looking for the pro's and con's etc of WAN, rather than LAN.
eg, I heard that tapping into a LAN from a parking lot is possible,
however one is not able to tap into a WAN as the transmission and
receiving devices are in direct line of sight.

Thank you
Andrew

talk2andrewc-ga,

Is there a particular technology that you have in mind already? From
your clarification, I sense that you are looking at microwave
transmission versus broadband wireless (802.11). As well, please
clarify what present technology you are looking to migrate from (ie.
leased fibre, private-line). With this clarification, I should be able
to provide you with links to several white papers about deploying
microwave WAN technology, as well as performance comparisons and
security considerations.

Hi,
To answer your question:
Is there a particular technology that you have in mind already?
I am looking at broadband wireless (802.11).

As well, please clarify what present technology you are looking to
migrate from (ie.leased fibre, private-line).
Its not from fibre. The maximum throughput that we attain at the
moment is 2Megs. Its an IP network. We also need to make provision for
voice and a two-way radio communication system eg for Emergency
Services.

Vendors such as Alvarion, Neta, Tsunami seem to have the appropriate
technologies. Obviously they will not divulge the pitfalls of wireless
and thats what I am looking for. Performance comparisons and
security considerations would be great, especially if they are
actually case studies .
