I took delivery of Makgill's novel 'Felons' today, but (to my
disappointment) there was no piccy of the author.

There's more about the man (b 1868; d 1926) on:

http://www.thrillingdetective.com/trivia/cheyney.html

I reckon that it's impossible to find one.

Please prove me wrong!

Oh dear ...

Has everyone failed me?

Well, I'm not surprised.

But I do like surprises ...

What about the awesome Anlon? The mysterious Larre? The Sublime1?

I reckon that they're all still in bed.

But many thank for your comments.

PB,

Thank you once again! I hope I don't let you down. I've started my
search but have come up empty so far although I've found out a lot
about Sir George Makgill. I must say I've never heard of him before.

All I can offer so far is a scan of a newspaper that talks about the
OMS:

http://gdl.cdlr.strath.ac.uk/redclyde/rc217.htm

and a link to the MacGill Society, McGill Society which seem to be
alternate spellings for Makgill:

http://gdl.cdlr.strath.ac.uk/redclyde/rc217.htm (scroll down to
William H. Macgill)

Kudos to you for involving your family on your quest for 1000
comments.

Silly me, I've included the same link twice. Here is the other:

Hi, Bowler

Thanks for the links.

The 'Red Clyde' one I hadn't seen before.

However, the phraseology was similar to 'Thrilling Detective' ...

Who copied who?

In the notes section of this page can be found reference to "George
Makgill's" career in Who's Who in 1927. There is also reference to
some papers and newsletter (maybe a photo?) I know I'm just guessing
right now but I'd figure I'd give you some leads:

Thanks again for the kudos, etc. Being a pseudo-GA Researcher was fun
for a while but I'm not up to the task on this one. Maybe you should
let the researchers take a crack at this one. In the meantime I'll
look out for your interesting questions, Oh and continue to look for
the elusive pic of Sir George . Time for dinner here (U.S.).

Hi, Bowler

Many thanks for trying.

I have already got all kinds of interesting stuff on Sir George and a
piccy would have been great.

Now, I'll try his family. I understand that some of his descendants
live in Sussex (like me.)

Enjoy your dinner!

(In which part of the US do you live?)

According to http://www.bookbill.com/litcat.html he was 11th Baronet
MAKGILL (a Scottish title)
I emailed the Scottish National Portrait Gallery but they do not
possess an image, neither does the London NPG.
Well, that's two possible places off the list.

My thanks to everyone for trying.

I'll now see if I can make contact with his family, his grandson is Lord Oxfuird.
