leander1 -- We have German-speaking researchers, of which I am not one, and I expect that one of them will be able to give you a definitive answer. However, I have come up with one site that provides a clue. Here are architectural drawings labeled "Holztafel - Baukasten: Fügungsprinzipien + Details." Two of the individual drawings are labeled with the term "fugungsprinzip," which is the singular form of your word. Given the drawings involved, it appears that the term refers to methods of joining elements of a structure. This is also consistent with the basic meaning of the elements of the compound word; that is "fugung" appears to mean a "joining" or an "addition," and "Prinzip" means "principle.
