Hello jeannejuneau,

Tracing our ancestors can be frustrating at times but also fun and
well worth the time and effort. Did you mean that Sarah Parthena Fox
and William Guin Rose were married in Hot Springs Arkansas, or David
Fox and Elizabeth Ann Dean were the ones married there? Where did you
obtain this information? Are there any other dates/names included in
this information?

Do you have any other information about her husband, William Guin
Rose, and his family?

Could you list the names of those in the family who have the name
Parthena, and their relationship to Sarah?

Have you checked any census records at all?

Have you yourself posted any queries on the internet seeking this
information? If so, where? I don't want to search and be giving you
information that you already have and were the one who posted it!!

Researchers will be searching and trying to help, I'm sure.

I will be gone for a week beginning tomorrow. And I also have to
consult a cousin on some dates etc. you ask about. I find on looking
again that my Sarah Pathena Fox appears to have been born in 184l in
TN. Her father ThomaS Fox (according to my searching) was born in
Willliamson Co. in 1819 in TN and married Delilah Jane Walker Oct 31,
1839. They had a daughter named Sarah Parthena and their youngest son
was named Noah. His father was named Noah according to my list. Noah
was married to a Mary. Here is where I bog down on that line. And I
do not have particulars. It all needs double checking. Delilah Jane
Walker was born in 1822TN . Apparently her parents were Thomas Walker
born 1787 in N.C. His wife was Mary born 7192 in TN . You can see
that this is somewhat speculative, but this is all I can say for the
moment. William Guin Rose was born 1836TN. His father was Elisha
Benjamin Rose and mother Jane Hicks. This is also sketchy information
although we are certain of his father's name. I have a picture of
Sarah Parthen with some of her children, including my Grandmother Emma
Jane Rose.

Is PARTHENA a maiden name or a middle name?
Do you have a more exact birthdate for her (month and day)?
Any idea about what city or county in Missouri she was born in?
Do you have a death date for her or name of any husband she married or
any children she had?
Do you know the names of her parents?

SINCERELY,

The information I have on Sarah Parthena Fox is that she was born
about 1841 in Polk, MO and married William Guin Rose on 23Nov1865.
Her middle name was Parthena, which is a name I run across frequently
in other parts of the family. According to what I now have which I
doubt the correctness of is that her father was named David Fox and
mother Elizabeth Ann Dean. They married in Hot Springs Arkansas. I
doubt this descent.

I found the following household containing a Sarah FOX of the right
age in Polk Co, Missouri in the 1860 US Federal Census:

Ref. Series: M653 Roll: 641 Page: 81 (Johnson Township)
Thomas FOX 42 Farmer b. Tenn
Jane FOX 38 b. Tenn
Sarah FOX 17 b. Tenn
Josephus FOX 15 Farmhand b. Tenn
Jones FOX 13 b. Tenn
Austin FOX 11 b. Tenn
James FOX 9 b. Tenn
John FOX 7 b. Mo
Frances FOX 5 b. Mo
George FOX 11m b. Mo

Unfortunately, this has her birth place as Tennessee. However, I note
that her entry with her husband William G ROSE in the 1881 Census
staes she WAS born in TN. Also that both of her parents were born in
TN. So it does seem likely that this is your Sarah P FOX, although I
cannot confirm it.

The interesting thing is that in Madison Township (Series: M653 Roll:
641 Page: 217) there is a household with a Charles C. FOX (aged 20),
and in the same household is a "Parthena WILLIAMS" (aged 11). Odd
coincidence - I guess the name was common in that area.

By 1871, Thomas FOX (with wife Delila J) and was a County Judge,
although by that time Sarah had, of course, long since left home.
Birthplaces of children shown in that census confirm that the family
moved from Tennessee to Missouri in about 1852-1854. I thought at
first this was a second wife. However, a quick check in the IGI at
www.familysearch.org shows the following:
Thomas FOX m: 31 Oct 1849 Williamson TN Delilah Jane WALKER

The type of batch number indicates that this records was submitted by
an LDS church member, and therefore needs verification. However, at a
first pass, I think I would hazard an (educated - I hope) guess that
these are indeed your Sarah Parthena ROSE's parents, i.e. Thomas ROSE
(b. c1818 TN) and Delilah Jane nee WALKER (b. c1822 TN). It will at
least provide you with a starting point in your research.

Unfortunately, I have been unable to locate this FOX family in 1850 or
earlier census records.

Regards and best wishes,

Brett (another non-ga)
