Hi there -- Hopefully a straightforward question: Is it possible to retrofit a Power Macintosh G3 (running OS 8.1) for 100BaseT Ethernet? [This is a dedicated installation running some proprietary hardware & software (an Avid Media Composer ABVB v7.1 system), and so the CPU and OS must remain as they are.] If this is possible -- and reliable -- roughly what would be the costs involved, and where would one look for the gear? I'd appreciate some authoritative information on the subject ... Thanks! |

Hi, Yes it's possible to fit a 100BaseT into a G3 Macintosh. You will need a PCI card with a Mac OS 8.1 driver. If you can get one there's an Apple 10/100Mb card that will work really well. After installing the card remember to switch to the new card in the control panel for TCP/IP. |

Hi, Sunny ... Well, the situation has changed as of today, and it looks like we won't need to do this upgrade after all. Please feel free to claim the fee, and if I need any further help, I'll add a comment or another query. Thanks for your reply! |
