Okay this is what I want. I own a small business on the web and would like to try direct email marketing (bulk email) and would like to find a good company with reasonable prices. I do not want email list as I do not want to send the email out myself. I want the company to have the list and email out the direct mail. I also want to make sure it is not spamming. I know that not all direct mailing is spamming and I want to make sure the company follows those rules. I would prefer not to use one of the companies with html type of emails. I just need to simply email out a short description in my direct emails. Also I would like to use a company that can send the emails to a certain group of people. I am specifically looking to email people that own domain names. Specifically please find at least 3 or more preferably that fit the criteria above. Also I am open to any suggestions that some one might have about the best way to go about using bulk emailing. |

Dear cmecklen, Your first possibility is to set up a newsletter or costumer list based on your site (adding a possibility in your business' site). The advantage is of course that whoever gets the mail is really interested and would like to get it. The disadvantage is that you're addressing mostly people who already heard of your firm (and it means setting your own list, etc.). Therefore, as you noted yourself, the best way would be to hire a firm that will do that for you. One of the ways to avoid spamming, is to market through an opt-in email list. These companies base their dtabase on users, who set their preferrences as to the mail they wish to receive (for example: I am interested in fitness and mark that way, and get ads that are fitness-related). You can find here, in google-directory, a list of companies supplying this service: http://directory.google.com/Top/Business/Marketing/Internet_Marketing/Marketing_Services/Opt-In_Email/ Here are also selected opt-in companies: Opt in Influence: sales@opt-influence.com Opt-Influence.com 1800 West Mason Street Green Bay, WI 54303 1.877.547.8864 +1 920.490.8553 Fax +1 920.490.8513 Postmaster direct - http://www.postmasterdirect.com/contact.php Yesmail - Sales Sales@Yesmail.com; Marketing Marketinginfo@Yesmail.com You can also email yourself, using this software : http://www.lsoft.com/products/default.asp?item=lsmtp It is meant to avoid spam and theft of email lists, but actually (and that's a disadvantage) can be used for spamming. While this is not a direct answer to your question, I would like to offer a few brief thoughts for you, and other persons using or considering using bulk email, to consider. You have business which you feel is offering a legitimate and valuable product or service and have placed it on the Internet, along with 2 billion other websites, and you want people to be aware of your website and see your presentation. How do you do that? One answer is to find a reputable bulk email, opt in, mailing list or other similar service. However, this answer is ineffective for several reasons. First, less than 1 percent of bulk email receives a positive response. I would dare to say that much of it is never even seen by the recipient because people are increasingly doing as I do which is filtering large lists of known bulk email domains and certain keywords in return addresses and subject lines. After that, I simply scan return addresses and subject lines on whatever is left and make farthar deletions. Even if you have a product or service I need or want, there is a VERY slim chance I will ever see your email advertising. In my opinion, the best solution is to get your Meta Tags, Keywords, and overall website design optimized so that whenever somebody looks searches for words / phrases related to your product or service, your site pops up in at least the top ten returns. This is not impossible to accomplish nor particularly difficult. I did it in less than a month. And, the way things are, if you can make that happen with Google, most other major search engines will list you similarly. Best part of this plan is that you have not annoyed anybody or been accused of being a spammer. Just my two cents. |

I can't speak to any of the specific firms that have been mentioned, but I can say from experience that much of the "opt in" e-mail isn't really that. I receive dozens of e-mails a day, and a good share (perhaps a third) say that the letter was sent to me because I opted in at one of the company's partners. I often KNOW for a fact I didn't, because I have made it a point of using only once certain e-mail address for transacting business that might put me on a mailing list. If you truly want to avoid spamming (and I applaud you for that), make sure you know how these companies have received their "opt in" lists. |
