The 6 year old monitor with a 17 " screen is perfectly satisfactory.
Has the technology in monitors moved along sufficiently to warrant
replacing it?. I'm not interested in a flatscreen monitor.

Hello gromit,

If you are satisfied with your current monitor, there is absolutely no
reason for you to replace your monitor. As long as your answer to all
of the following question is no, you will be fine with the monitor you
currently have:

-Does the monitor flicker or hurt your eyes at all?
-Do you want a larger monitor?
-Are you worried about energy consumption? (If yes, is your current
monitor energy friendly?)
-Does your old monitor support the resolution that you plan on using
with your new computer?

If your monitor were to conk out in the next year or two, you would
probably lose whatever discount there would be if you bought a new
monitor now, however your warrenty on the new monitor would last
longer, and there is always the chance that your old monitor will last
another 5 years. If you really have no problems with your current
monitor, I do not recommend that you replace it.

I hope this was the type of answer you were expecting. If you have any
questions regarding any of the above, please let me know and I will do
my best to further assist you.

I bought a new computer recently and I retained my oldish 17" monitor.
It works perfectly well even though I, too, have considered a flat
screen job.

But, as prices are dropping every minute, I am prepared to wait ......

Sorry ... I misread your question ... On re-reading I see that you are
NOT interested in a flat screen job.

So, there's even less reason for you to change.

Hi gromit,

Last November I bought a new computer and kept my 5 year old 19"
monitor. I saw no reason to replace it.

Best regards,

tlspiegel

Hi. I got a PIII computer about 2 years ago... but I'm still using my
11-year-old VGA monitor that I used w/a AT 286!!!! So... there's no
need to change it if it works well for you (but... of course, I'd LIKE
to change my monitor if I get some money :) )
