Many years ago on Long Island we would buy no-cal carbonated coffee soda at Waldbaums. This was not a drink like the canned drinks sold by Starbucks or similar things. It was coffee soda. It was delicious. Where can I buy this in Washington DC? The answer will tell me the brand name(s) and the location of the store(s). The stores can be in Northwest, Montgomery County, or Arlington County. |

Greetings! I am leaving this information as a comment, because I do not think the beverage you are seeking is available at this time. I will leave it up to your judgment as to whether this will suffice as an answer. I was able to find information on one non caloric coffee flavored soda, that had been test marketed in the New York Metro area a few years back, called Pepsi Kona. Unfortunately, it has been discontinued and is no longer available. I did locate another coffee flavored soda that was developed by the daughter of Ernest Borgnine, the actor. The product is called, Borgnine's coffee soda. The information states that it is available across the United States, and you can find out the location in your area by visiting their website. Hello former LawnGuylander.... Well...I'm hoping i'm on the right track here, but in my family when you say Coffee soda, what you really mean is Manhattan Special Expresso Coffee Soda. It is a product still maufactered and sold on Long Island in most supermarkets. I did find an online site which offers the soda and their fine t-shirts and hats. If you can't buy it locally it appears they will ship it. (this is something I am currently doing with Fruit2o's Berry Berry Relaxing and it works nicely) I called their number listed below and spoke to an actual human with no answering service or digital interface (isn't old school business wonderful) and was informed that on monday someone would be able to more specifically detail areas of sale for their product. I highly reccomend calling them... Manhattan Special 342 Manhattan Ave Brooklyn, NY 11211 (718)388-4144 Fax: (718)384-0244 If this however isn't the soda you were looking for, I'm truly sorry to have taken up your time, but would urge you to try some of theirs anyway! Have a great weekend, Mother911-ga |

pwal: Wow....that Manhattan Special Coffee Diet Soda sounds wonderful...I'm going down to the US Open next week (Bethpage, LI) and will be sure to pick up a case for myself. Thanks for your lead mother911. As an old New Yorker/New Jersyite (many years ago), I occasionally get a hankering for Dr. Brown's which is available at: http://www.foodlocker.com/gingeralecase.html While they don't have coffee soda, the cream soda and cel ray is a great addition to the larder. seedy |

The Manhattan Special Coffee Diet Soda sounds great. Mother911-ga and all the other commentators are very appreciated. No answer yet to my local DC query, but we're getting closer. I'm fairly certain the brand we would buy was Waldbaums own label. As far as I know it was sold for many years - but my memory goes back 20+ years now. Surprisingly, with all the coffee for sale these days and Starbucks every 50 yards or so, no one is mass marketing this drink. Coffee soda is actually quite good and refreshing. |

Greetings and Salutations fellow Caffeine Affectionado, I also leave this answer as a comment as my answer does not answer your question, but perhaps might satisfy your need for coffee soda. A quick search gave many recipes for the drink, but the one I use is quick easy and delicious. I submit it for you taste buds to pass judgement. Diet Coffee Soda 1/2 cup of Chilled Brewed Cofffee 1/2 cup of Cola Soda (diet or lo-calorie) Lemon slice Sugar free sweetner to taste. Combine, Consume and hopefully your senses will be satisfied. hmm.... Not manhattan expresso coffee soda, I am mildly disappointed, but to each their own (LOL). I am still looking around and will see what I can turn up. I'm checking through my local relatives who may have worked there, as well as with the two or three hardcore coffee soda fans in the family. So hold on PWAL, don't give up on us just because we haven't found it yet. Mother911-ga |

Just a suggestion--canned coffee is more popular in Asian markets (especially Japan) rather than here. Have you tried browsing some Asian supermarkets? Product names will be unfamilar, and not all products will be carbonated, but tasting should be entertaining. |

The thing that makes this whole question even tougher is that Waldbaum's has been out of business for at least 5 years, now. There was one near where I used to live back then, but finding someone who worked there to ask would be difficult at best. |

I found the answer to my own question, so I'll close it down. This is with a nod of thanks to mother911-ga who posted the information about Manhattan Special Espresso Coffee Soda. There is an old Italian market (A. Litteri) in Northeast DC (A. Litteri) that is reputed to sell Manhattan Special. The location is close enough to meet my needs. So, thanks again for all the comments. I'm off to Litteri's next weekend to look for myself. |
