The silent version of "The Phantom of the Opera," starring the great
Lon Chaney, can be purchased on DVD or VHS from the Lon Chaney
website's online store. The VHS tape sells for $19.95, and the DVD is
only $8.99. There is also a "Special Collector's Edition" DVD for
$26.99:

LonChaney.com

Used copies of the film are available at bargain prices:

Half.com: "The Phantom of the Opera" VHS

Half.com: "The Phantom of the Opera" DVD

If you prefer to view the movie online, you may do so here, for free:

NetBroadcaster.com
http://www.netbroadcaster.com/movies/classics/phantom.html

(NOTE: The NetBroadcaster site shows the movie in a pop-up window. If
you have a pop-up blocker installed on your computer, you will need to
turn the blocker off temporarily so that the window can open.)

Here's another online site that offers a free viewing of "The Phantom
of the Opera", in Quicktime format. This one didn't work very well on
my computer, but I sometimes have difficulties with Quicktime movies:

Net Broadcasting System

Google search strategy:

Google Web Search: "phantom of the opera" + "lon chaney" + "vhs"

I hope this enables you to watch this terrific film! If anything
further is needed, please request clarification; I'll be glad to offer
further assistance before you rate my answer.

Best wishes,

Hi there pinkfreud! Thank you so much for your quick response. I
apologize for not being clearer in my question. I actually want to
find a theater some where in the US that will show me the movie. I am
headed out on a vacation and would love to go to a silent movie
theater. Can you help me please? Thank you!

I am very sorry to have misunderstood your question.

I am going to bed now, and will do some further research for you
tomorrow, if that is all right. I'll do my best to find a theater in
the US that is showing this film. If I can't find one, of course you
will be entitled to a refund.

It would be very helpful if you could tell me your approximate
itinerary (i.e. what dates, which states, and such.)

Hi there! No problem! I can wait until tomorrow! I am leaving
Southern California on Monday and will be gone for most of august
traveling. I have had much trouble finding a silent movie theater
anywhere, so if you find one showing Phantom, I would appreciate it
very much! Thanks pinkfreud! Have a super night!

I hope you'll be able to fit one of these events into your travel
plans. Thanks for providing an interesting and challenging question.
I'm a silent film fan myself (with a particular interest in Harold
Lloyd and Buster Keaton), and I found quite a bit of good reading
while I was seeking "The Phantom."

One more thing: I'm tickled pink by your Google Answers user name. My
nickname among my fellow Researchers is "Pinky." Wish I'd thought of
adding "Princess" to it. ;-)
