Question ID: 238352
Hi:

Does anyone know how to increase the Windows XP Pro color Palatte for
digital content creation. Everyone says, "buy a Mac". However, I just
bought a brand new Dell workstation and a Dell Laptop.

What's the best solution money can buy out there when it comes to a
monitor and video card for a PC in order to achieve the closest color
palette to the Mac platform? I use Windows XP based applications for
everything. It doesn't seem right just to buy a Mac for doing digital
imaging/ Scanning (being a professional photographer) with Photoshop
and do all of my other day to day activities using Windows XP based
applications. Not to mention the expense of switiching platforms by
having to buy mac versions of all my other current applications
(uggggh!!!)

Can someone offer a solution?

As far as I know, the color palette of any modern PC should be
identical to that of the Macintosh. What kind of specific problems
are you having?

I'm told the mac platform has a richer color palette vs. Windows XP
Pro. Windows has 256 colors and I'm not sure how many the current Mac
OS has. Digital Imaging is traditionally done on the Mac platform but
I don't want to switch just because everyone else out there is using a
Mac for photographic and digital imaging. What should I do? Someone
said a high end CRT is better than an LCD flat panel. Would you agree?
What's the best graphics card on the market for Windows XP Pro for
digital photography and high end professional digital scanning of
professoinal film? Is there another Google Expert who might lend a
hand in answering these questions?

Hello:
If your Windows has only 256 colors, this means two things:
-Your graphics card is not well configured
-You have a really, really low graphics card.

Windows XP can show as many colors as a Mac, you just need to setup
the right graphics mode.

To do this, right click on the desktop and select the "Properties"
option in the popup menu.

In this dialog, select the Properties Tab and change the color
settings.

If you can't change the color settings, we will try to discover where
is your problem.

Regards.
