I have a ADSL internet connection with a static IP. When I leave the computer connected and idle for a long time ( say a period of several hours) and then try to use it, the connection status show "connected", however, I am unable to surf. Usually, then I disconnect from the internet and when I try to log in again, I am unable to log into the ISP server network. When I try to shut down the computer I get the following error message: " A fatal exception OE has occurred at 0028:C003117C. The current application has been terminated." the only way I can then shut down the computer is by pulling the power. When I reboot, I am able to connect to the internet fine. Can anyone tell me what is causing this problem? I am running Windows 98. Many thanks. | |

I don't have this problem but (as a layman) one possible solution might be to ask your mail program (Outlook Express?) to keep checking for new mail every 5 minutes (say). This might maintain the connection. |
