Hi.

Prior to moving to Joe Louis Arena in 1979, the Red Wings played at
Olympia Stadium.

From the web page: "Red Wings History: The Glorious Wings of Past and
Present":

"The team also moved across the Detroit River and into the brand new
Olympia Stadium for the 1926-27 season. A Detroit and professional
hockey landmark, the Olympia would serve as the home for the franchise
through the midway point of 1979-80 season."

From the article SPORTS, ENTERTAINMENT AND PIZZA: A WINNING
COMBINATION by Sharon Arend, Company Historian, Little Caesar
Enterprises:

"In 1926, the Detroit Red Wings played their first game at the Border
Arena in Windsor just across the river from Detroit. In 1927, the
Olympia Stadium in Detroit (also designed by C. Howard Crane) became
the Red Wing?s home ice, where they played until 1979. At that time,
the team moved to Joe Louis Arena, and as a result, most of the
franchise?s archival records were lost or sold."

According to this web page on NHL arena history, Olympia was
demolished in 1986.

I hope this helps.

I notice that I left out the URL for that article "SPORTS,
ENTERTAINMENT AND PIZZA." It came from:
