Question ID: 238520
Names and contact information for individuals or reputable sales
outlets that will sell a 53" Giacometti male sculpture figure and
have a proven record in such sales. We will be selling one shortly.
.
The sculpture is known to have been produced in Giacometti's workships
but is unsigned and therefore has no provanance. Signed originals
have been selling for over $1,000,000.

If you can get the sale prices of similiar Giacometti sales or
similiar sculpture, it would be helpful.

< Reputable auction houses.
The major auction houses are Christie’s and Sotheby’s. They are
experienced in selling art works and have a huge network of contacts
around the world who are interested in buying art works. Links to
their main web pages are given below. I have also given links to
directories containing details of other auction houses.

Finding the value of the work.

Sotheby’s offers a free valuation for any work offered in its
auctions.
http://search.sothebys.com/about/contact/as_auctionest.html

You can get a free estimate of what a piece will reach in an auction
by using their auction estimate request service. This involves filling
in a form and sending photographs of the work. Alternatively you can
make an appointment to visit one of their offices.

You can get a form at.

For a reasonable fee you can have the work valued by Christie’s. For
further information you can either email Christie’s at
info@christies.com , contact a Christie’s office or write to:
Christie's Estates & Appraisals
20 Rockefeller Plaza

Christie’s is also able to broker private sales. They have an
extensive network of contacts and can identify collectors of
particular artists and museums interested in purchasing works from
particular artists. For more information see

Provenance.
The lack of provenance may or may not affect the sale of the work. Any
evidence that you can provide about the work coming from the
Giacometti workshop will help. A buyer will want to be confident that
the work is an original. If a major auction house confirms that it is
an original work buyers will be more confident with parting with
their money. However if an auction house is not certain about its
authenticity they may prefer to offer it for sale as a work in the
style of Giacometti which will seriously affect the price.>

I may have confused the question. I'm not interested in galleries and
auction houses.

I'm interested in places that you can find that have previously
handled works that do not have providence or works "in the style of"
or top grade reproductions.

I want to make sure that the found places have actually andled works
that appear to be but may not b or probaly are not the artist's
originals.

Again, we think that this work was done in Giacometti's work shops but
it is unsigne and uncataloged and there is no record of its history
anywhere.

Thanks for helping,

Dave
