Question ID: 238872
Every week, I am invited to share some Nigerian's good fortune.

And, today, I was invited to visit:

www.commercialbankofafrica.com

I had also been given an Account Number & a PIN number.

Sure enough, there was $4.5 million sitting in the account and I was apparently
also enabled to make a wire transfer out of the account.

What have I done to deserve such good fortune?

Hello Bryan!

What *have* you done to deserve such good fortune?

Well, let's see...

You've contributed to an engaging and interesting book about the seedy
underbelly of the geek world:

Approaching Zero
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0679409386/qid=1060018622

...and then there's the one about credit card fraud:

Cheating at Cards
http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0952547708

There's your work with the Thrilling Detective site:

Staff
http://www.thrillingdetective.com/cont.html

...and the cool e-book site:

State Secrets: The Wolkoff Files (via archive.org)
http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.state-secrets.com/

You're always nice to the Researchers hereabouts, and have managed to
become quite the favorite. Perhaps that is contributing to your good
fortune? You do, after all, lighten our moods considerably with your
playful and inventive questions. That's got to be a factor.

Or it could just be that you're an all around nice fella who was due
for a lucky break. (While this is the most reasonable explanation, I
still would just stay away from these guys if I were you. You never
know what kind of filthy scammer is lurking, just waiting to take
advantage of a good-natured guy such as yourself.)

Hypothetically speaking,

Couldn't he open an online bank account with no starting balance and
try it to see what happens? What would be the danger in that... or is
there a "wire transfer fee" that doesn't withdraw from the account?

PB, if we had 4,500,000 we would give it to you. Of course, you would
probably give it all back to the GA researchers (and they deserve it!)

With the much money in your account, one might think you could be a
little more generous with the fee you're paying for this question. =)

I've gotten those emails before....always about somebody who died in
the states and they need somebody to pick up the cash for 10percent
fee.......

I've gotten 3 or 4 of them and they always say something about looking
for a trustworthy sucker!!!
