Hi,
I'm overwhelmed by the number of pop-up killer software out there. I
need to buy a good one. I'm willing to pay for it. Would be great if
the big guys like Mcaffe or Norton have something like this. I would
prefer to buy it from them. Please send me a list of the very best
pop-up killer software out there.
By the way, I've seen some of the previous answers on this subject and
they didn't help. Please do not send me a previous answer from
Google.

Thanks,
mediatek

I guess there isn't much to add from the original answer. It's great
that the Google toolbar is working well for you! Researchers love the
toolbar because we tend to wander from page to page and it will get us
back to the original search quickly.

Make sure that you check the "Options" button to see how you can
change the Toolbar --I like to have "Search Site" on my toolbar.

The original answer is:
Right now I'm in the process of upgrading a pair of systems
and I'm finding that the answer is very different for Internet
Explorer 5.0 vs. IE 6.0.

In 6.0, the popup killer in the Google Toolbar works stunningly well.
It doesn't work in most IE 5.0 installations, however. For a long
time I'd used Internet Sweeper on my IE 5.0. It's available from
Emory Engineering:
http://www.bmesite.com/

It has excellent controls; is easy-to-use but blocks ANY popups (even
links that open a new web page). Still, it's an excellent product --
easy to turn on-and-off.

Best regards,

Researchers hate to make judgment calls like this but will likely
comment. Right now I'm in the process of upgrading a pair of systems
and I'm finding that the answer is very different for Internet

In 6.0, the popup killer in the Google Toolbar works stunningly well.

I second Omnivorous's statements. The Google toolbar has enabled
blocking of pop-ups for me a total of 238 times. One one pop-up
popped through and the toolbar has an easy report function seemingly
so that Google can visit the site in question to see what's up with
the pop-ups that slip though.

PS I have IE 6.0

I recommend using a different browser, Mozzilla Firebird has a built
in pop-up blocker, and its free.

I concur. Opera also can be set to block popups.

Hi omnivorous,
I can't seem to find the google pop-up software you mentioned. Can
you give me a little more detail.
Thanks,

Mediatek,

You'll want to go here:

http://toolbar.google.com

...and get the Beta 2.0 Toolbar.

I am still using IE 5.5, and the Beta Google Toolbar 2.0 works
beautifully for me. It makes a little beep each time it blocks a
popup, which gives you the opportunity to temporarily turn the blocker
off, in case you really want that particular popup. Every now and
then, a popup window may contain something useful, so it's nice to
know when one has been suppressed, just in case you may decide you
want to see it.

According to the tally on my toolbar, it has blocked 752 popups since
I installed it about a month ago. I am mighty glad not to have had to
deal with all those popups.
