Question ID: 238975
I am looking to purchase a notebook computer. I would like to know of
all available notebook computers within the last two years that are
very light weight (under 5.5 lbs not including battery) and have a
screen size of at least 13”. Models can be both new or used, and
should be priced under $1,500. My general purpose is that I am an
incoming law student and will be carrying my computer around all of
the time. My technical needs are not great; I expect that I mostly
will just be using Microsoft Office programs and internet access. I
would prefer it to have a built in CD/DVD drive, though I would be
okay with an external drive. Other weight-adding features are not
essential. I have noticed that there are many lightweight computers
however screen size is compromised.

Hi!

When you say that you want "to know of ALL available," do you really
want one of us to do an exhaustive search, or would you accept
references to 5 computers matching your specs?

If 5 is still too low, I'd recommend specifying a minimum number of
answers that you want...most researchers would not be willing to
perform an hours-long exhaustive search for $3.75 (which is what a
researcher would get paid for providing an answer).

Hi there! Thanks for the clarification. I would accept 7 or more and
less than 10 options.

Ucbgirlie,

I've found some computers that ALMOST match your requirements. I
cannot find anything for $1500 or less. I *have* found computers in
the $1650-$1800 range.

Also, be aware that a computer with dimensions of about 12'' x 10''
have a "screen size" advertised as 14''. I'm assuming that this is
also what you mean. Please confirm.

Look at the Apple ibook. The top of the line one is $1400 for
students, plus there are various package deals right now if you want
to pick up an ipod, etc.

If you want a Windows Intel Platform then I would suggest a Dell
computer. They will give you a minimum of 1 year or service and
support free and up-to three years for a nominal fee. I recently
bought one for 900.00. it was a 2Gig Celeron, Internal DVD, 20Gig
Hard Drive, 128M Ram, BUT 7lbs. I just searched on Dells website and
it lists for 699.99.
