My website (musiclessonsplus.com) has been submitted. I have twenty
keywords. How can I easily find what page I am on without searching
through all the pages? For example, when I searched the keyword "Drum
Lessons" I had to look through 26 pages before I found my site on page
27. If I do this for all 20 keywords I'll get a migraine. Thank you in
advance for your help, Roger

Hi Roger,

I'll start off with how I would do it...

Method 1
========

1) Go to Google's preferences page and select 100 for the number of
results
://www.google.com/preferences

2) Search for your keywords. The results pages will have 100 results
at a time. Search the page for your domain name, or just a part of it
if it is uncommon - in Internet Explorer you can search the page using
Control F.

Doing it the above way should save you time and migraines.

Method 2
========

Now... the other way. Automated query software. Google requests that
we do not use such programs, because they can drain resources
unnecessarily. It is not uncommon for webmasters to check their
rankings on hundreds of keywords, several times a day - even though
most rankings stay reasonably constant for weeks on end.

"Don't use unauthorized computer programs to submit pages, check
rankings, etc. Such programs consume computing resources and violate
our terms of service. Google does not recommend the use of products
such as WebPosition Gold™ that send automatic or programmatic queries
to Google. "

Google has, and still does, penalize webmasters who use such programs.
It isn't worth the risk.

Another Option
==============

I have learnt from personal experience that a lot of time can be
wasted checking rankings, referrer stats and revenue. I say wasted
because in general the end result is still the same, you decide to try
harder to get better rankings and more visitors.

Consider the following:

- a quick check of your total visitors each day will alert you to any
sudden increases or decreases of traffic. If there is a sudden change,
then investigate the cause (someone new linked to you, higher search
ranking etc).

- outside of the top 30 results, your ranking doesn't make much
difference, because few searchers continue further. The difference
between 101st and 198th is negligible.

- the time to check rankings more regularly is when you are on the
first page, because if you consequently disappear, swift investigation
and action is required.

Best wishes,
