I get an error message "missing file MRTRATE.VXD" when starting my Win
98SE computer. I know that it is a file dealing with QuickBooks Pro
2002 on my computer and have unloaded and reloaded the software -
didn't work. Also turned off the automatic updates within QuickBooks -
didn't work.

Hi Jrb03,
You could try copying the MRTRATE.VXD file from the QuickBooks Pro CD
(if it's on there) to C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\

1. Double-click the MY COMPUTER icon.
2. Click the CD-ROM icon with your right mouse button, then choose
OPEN.
3. Navigate to the MRTRATE.VXD file, and click on the icon
4. From the EDIT menu, choose COPY.
5. Close all windows.
6. Double-click the MY COMPUTER icon.
7. Double-click the (C:) icon.
8. Double-click the WINDOWS folder.
9. Double-click the SYSTEM folder.
10. From the EDIT menu, choose PASTE.
11. Close all windows.
12. Restart your computer.

Let me know if that works.

Thanks. Have tried that and cannot find the file. Also unloaded the
program and reloaded the program. Didn't help either.

I came across this solution on the Intuit website:
------------------------------------
"When Quicken is installed, several files necessary for the Background
Downloading feature in Quicken are installed that may conflict with
existing system drivers or ports. Common symptoms of this are:

*	Illegal operation and invalid page fault error messages that mention
the Mrtrate.dll, Mrtrate.vxd, Mrtproc.dll, or QAgent files
*	The modem attempts to dial when starting the computer.
*	You are unable to print after going online
*	The printer is activated when going online

To resolve these issues, determine what the conflict is through a
process of elimination and attempt to resolve it by updating the
driver for the device, or disable Quicken's Background Downloading
driver.

Note: Disabling the Background Downloading drivers is the easiest to
do but is not without it's drawbacks; Quicken will no longer be able
to use the idle time of your Internet connection to download update
information, and if you have QuickBooks installed on your system, you
will lose important update functionality.

To disable Quicken's Background Downloading driver:

1.	Start Quicken.
2.	On the Edit menu, point to Options and select Internet Options.
3.	Select Don't use Background Downloading and click OK."

Hope this helps!
