Having extreme trouble getting Google to index the website
"www.ransportscases.com". Have checked and rechecked code for proper
META tags and have submitted successfully to Google numerous times in
the last several months. I have even "seeded" the site with links in
other domains I have up which are routinely successful in search
summaries.

No combination of www.ransportscases.com produces any results in
search summaries...any suggestions?

Hi, Agr_marketing ~

I took a look at your site, first as a visitor would see it, then
looking for clues as to why you might be experiencing problems getting
listed.

From a visitor's standpoint, I am impressed by the detail work in your
cabinets. They are art in themselves. I found the site easy to
navigate and there was a good balance of graphics and content.
Overall, it looks good, presents well, and there are only a few
suggestions which I'll address below.

I notice you established the domain in April. Although you didn't say
when you first submitted your site to Google, search engine discussion
lists, such as Webmaster World, are reporting inordinate delays in
getting listed. There are also discussions about what seem to be
errors which have occurred in the same time frame. This may be
contributing to your difficulties.

You can view the discussions regarding this at Webmaster World's
"Google News" forum
   - http://www.webmasterworld.com/forum3/

=====================
Submitting Your Site
=====================

I am assuming you used Google's AddURL page -
://www.google.com/addurl.html - to submit your site and that you
did not use unauthorized software, such as WebPosition Gold, to do so.

Google specifically warns against the use of such software in its
"Quality Guidelines - Basic principles":

"Don't use unauthorized computer programs to submit pages, check
rankings, etc. Such programs consume computing resources and violate
our terms of service. Google does not recommend the use of products
such as WebPosition Gold™ that send automatic or programmatic queries
to Google."
   - ://www.google.com/webmasters/guidelines.html

If you did use such software, you may want to resubmit your site * BY
HAND * using the AddURL page above.

==============================
Links to Your Site & PageRank
==============================

In "How Do I Get My Site Listed On Google?", Google explains
"Submission is not necessary and does not guarantee inclusion in our
index. Given the large number of sites submitting URLs, it's likely
your pages will be found in an automatic crawl before they make it
into our index through the URL submission form. We DO NOT add all
submitted URLs to our index, and cannot predict when or if they will
appear."
   - ://www.google.com/webmasters/1.html

Google also states, "The best way to ensure Google finds your site is
for your page to be linked from lots of pages on other sites. Google's
robots jump from page to page on the Web via hyperlinks, so the more
sites that link to you, the more likely it is that we'll find you
quickly."

A search for www.ransportscases.com on Google returns the following:
	"Sorry, no information is available for the
	URL www.ransportscases.com

	"Find web pages that contain the term
	 "www.ransportscases.com""

Clicking on the "Find web pages that contain the term ..." returns:

	"Your search - "+www.ransportscases.+com" - did
	not match any documents.
	"No pages were found containing "ransportscases"."

Likewise, a search on alltheweb.com returned no listing for
ransportscases.com; however, there was one external link listed, that
being from woodindustry.com.

You will increase your chances of being listed in Google's index
considerably if you establish links FROM sites with a good PageRank
and relevant content. Google explains PageRank on its PageRank
Information -
   - ://www.google.com/webmasters/4.html

and "PageRank Explained"
   - ://www.google.com/technology/index.html

Therefore, links TO your site from relevant pages are given weight in
its search engine results, "... Google combines PageRank with
sophisticated text-matching techniques to find pages that are both
important and relevant to your search. Google goes far beyond the
number of times a term appears on a page and examines all aspects of
the page's content (and the content of the pages linking to it) to
determine if it's a good match for your query."
   - ://www.google.com/technology/index.html

There are many practical ways of establishing links which are
beneficial to you in your endeavor to get respectable position
placement on search engines. These methods may take time, but they
also help in establishing credibility and help with your page rank.

Approach like-minded or complementary businesses about linking to your
site (with a reciprocal link from your own). This works without
harming search engine positioning or page rank.

Articles on Link Popularity
===========================

A couple of excellent articles on how to establish the right kind of
links are available in Traffick's "Ten Steps to Building Links to Your
Site", Craig Fifield - 5/3/2002
 - http://www.traffick.com/article.asp?aID=77

and "The Right Way to Improve Link Popularity", By Paul J. Bruemmer -
4/14/2002 -
 - http://www.traffick.com/article.asp?aID=41

Notice both articles offer suggestions which can be easily adapted for
use on any website without resorting to link farms. They both point
out the differences and offer easy ways to get started to the kind of
linking search engines prefer.

=========================
What else you can do
to get listed in Google?
=========================

Google recommends listing your site with both the Open Directory
Project - DMOZ.org - and Yahoo!

"Google partners on the Web include Yahoo! and Netscape. If you are
having difficulty getting listed in the Google index, you may want to
consider submitting your site to either or both of these directories.
You can submit to Yahoo! by visiting
http://docs.yahoo.com/info/suggest/. You can submit your site to
Netscape's Open Directory Project (DMOZ) by visiting www.dmoz.org.
Once your site is included in either of these directories, Google will
often index your site within six to eight weeks." (See "What else can
I do to get listed in Google?")
   - ://www.google.com/webmasters/1.html

A check on dmoz.org and Yahoo show no listing for ransportscases.com,
so listing with both of them can enhance your chances of getting
listed in Google's index.

=======================
A Few More Suggestions
=======================

1. Title Tags
-------------

If you've looked through Webmaster World's Google New Discussions, you
will note an observation that Google "seems" to give some weight to
your title tags. Checking your source code, all your pages have the
same title tag, "Ransportscases - Handcrafted Heirloom Cabinets &
Guaranteed 100% Authentic Sports Memorabilia"

Put your title tags to work for you! Change your title tags to more
closely reflect the content contained on each page. It may not help,
but it surely won't hurt in search engine placement to use your title
tags to reinforce the key words in your text content.

Google recommends the same in its Design and Content Guidelines, "Make
sure that your TITLE and ALT tags are descriptive and accurate"
   - ://www.google.com/webmasters/guidelines.html

2. DOCTYPE Declaration
----------------------

The one omission on all your pages is a DOCTYPE Declaration.

DOCTYPES are essential to the proper rendering and functioning of web
documents in compliant browsers. It is also essential for the search
engines to understand and follow the coding contained on your pages.

DOCTYPE is explained and discussed further in "A List Apart",
  - http://www.alistapart.com/stories/doctype/

and in Web Design Group's article, "Choosing a DOCtype",
  - http://www.htmlhelp.com/tools/validator/doctype.html

As you can see, inclusion of a DOCTYPE Declaration enables your
visitor's browser to render the site as you want him to see it. A good
rule of thumb is that if it's good for your visitor, it will be good
for Google.

I suggest adding a DOCTYPE Declaration to each page.

Other than those issues, your site really is in good shape and
presents very well.

Search Engine Submission
=========================

Below are top search engines (as determined by Nielsen Net Ratings):
   - http://www.nielsen-netratings.com/

* Google -
   - ://www.google.com/addurl.html

* DMOZ -
   - http://www.dmoz.com/

 * All The Web -
   - http://www.alltheweb.com/help/webmaster/submit_site.html

 * Hotbot & Lycos InSite (requires registration)
   - http://insite.lycos.com/searchservices/

 * Yahoo! -
   - http://docs.yahoo.com/info/suggest/

 * Zeal -
   - http://zeal.com/

You should submit your site to the above in order to reach the
greatest amount of potential customers.

Patience Is The Name of The Game
=================================

Unfortunately, waiting for your site to show up is the hardest part of
search engine submission. While I have heard of cases of sites which
seem to get listed immediately, it has been my experience that most
take some time to show up.

After following the suggestions above, "wait and see" seems to be what
you have to do.

Thank you for the opportunity to answer this question. Without it I
would have missed seeing true craftsmanship in the form of your sports
cases.

Good luck with your search engine placement,
