Question ID: 241227
There are many manufacturers of texturized vegetable proteins( TVP)
around the world. Texurized vegetable proteins are mostly use to
replace meat partially in hotdogs or hamburger patties or similar
application. Good texturized vegetable protein usually do not have
taste of soy, the more neutral taste, the better. These no soy taste
texturized vegetable proteins are incorporated with the real meat to
save on consumption of real meat.
However, what we need is a very specialized type of texturized
vegetable protein ( TVP), and is very different from the normal type.
The one which I am searching for is the type which base has neutral
taste, and then subsequently flavor of chicken or beef is then added
BY THE MANUFACTURER and TVP which already has flavour of chicken or
beef becomes the final product which they are selling- not a product
which the user still have to add chicken or beef flavour into it. This
type of product has a very specific application which is for the
instant noodle industries. It is to replace real freeze dried chicken
or freeze dried beef, and not to mix with raw meat of chicken or beef.
In the normal application of normal TVP, the juice in the real chicken
or beef meat will be the one to impart flavour into the TVP during
use. In our case, the TVP is to be added to the instant noodle with no
real chicken or beef and will independenly be the source of the
chicekn or beef flavour to impart flavour into the instant noodle soup
as substitude for real freeze dried chicken or freeze dried beef.
Many manufacturer will say, you can add your own chicken flavour or
beef flavour into our texturized vegetable protein before you use it.
This is not the product we are looking for. Adding the flavour into a
neutral taste base is an additional process and we do not have the
technology or resources to do it.
Therefore, we are looking for manufacturer of texturized vegetable
protein in the dried form which is already Chicken or beef flavoured
which size is about 3 to 5 mm cube There is one big company in Israel
called Solbar Hatzor LTD, which has an exclusive distributor here in
the Phils who has this type of TVP, they are our competitor, therefore
, we can not buy from Solbar Hatzor .

My Question is therefore stated as---
Give at least one manufacturer in the world, other than Solbar Hatzor
in Israel, which is producing chicken or beef flavoured dried pieces (
size approxiamtely 3 to 5 mm cube) of texturized vegetable protein to
be used by the noodle industries.

Hello, Pnri,
I found many websites where chicken-flavored TVP is sold, but I
couldn't determine the manufacturer. They might be Solbar Hatzor-made
TVP too. I'll see what else I can find.

Clarification of Question by pnri-ga on 08 Aug 2003 14:31 PDT
Dear Techtor-ga,

Why don't you contact some of the distributors and ask them for the
manufacturer's name or ask them if they have any limitation of selling
to any importers here in the Philippines ? Solbar has exclusive
agreement with Solbar's agent here in the Philippines . Please ask
them if their principal will know or stop them in shipping to the
Philippines.?
If I receive name and contact numbers and email of at least 5
distributors who have this type of product, and who do not has any
limitation in shipping to the Philippines, then I would consider the
objective achieved . If I have a distributors, my chances of buying
Solbar product without being stopped is greater. But of course, if we
can find another manufacturer which is not Solbar, then we do not have
this problem of being stopped.

My objective is to ask them for technical information, price and
ultimately to buy and supply the instant noodle industries in the
Philippines.

I'll let you know that I've emailed the companies I've found which
sell TVP. I might get a response next week though, since it's the
weekend now in the United States and UK.

Hello again Pnri,
One of the distributors I asked has responded, and they are willing to
ship to the Philippines. They just want to know how much TVP you'll be
ordering. Will you be making a large initial order?

Clarification of Question by pnri-ga on 12 Aug 2003 14:01 PDT
Dear Techtor-ga,

Our company is in the food ingredients business and we import from all
over the world. In the past, we imported real freeze dried meat to
sell to the instant noodle industry. However, recently, due to the
Philippine Peso devaluation versus the US Dollar, our clients find
using real freeze dried meat unaffordable. They have switch to TVP
which is chicken flavoured.
Chicken flavoured TVP is a new product to us. We not not yet know the
specification, size, taste profile and many other aspects. We have to
start from the very beginning from requesting samples and technical
literature and to develop with our customer before we can buy.
Initially , the volume can not be big because the risks is too high.
This is not a cheap product. Ultimately, as the customers approve the
product or use it for quite some time without problem, then slowly
they can switch over to the new supplier. It is then by that tiem, that
the volume will be bigger.

If you can just give me some names of manufacturers of chicken
flavoured TVP ( their tel, fax and website or e-mail) and also a few
name of the distributors ( maybe 5 ) with their contact number like
fax number, email address and telephone, it would be enough. If I have
name of 5 distributors, then the chance of them selling to us is
greater. I will contact them directly.

regards,

pnri-ga

So far I've found only two distributors of TVP willing to ship to the
Philippines. Two others do not. I will let you know of any other
development.

Clarification of Question by pnri-ga on 13 Aug 2003 12:58 PDT
Dear Techtor ga,

Names of two distributors of chicken flavored TVP is not enough, need
one or two more who is willing to ship to the Philippines together
with the name of their manufacturers (the producer of the goods they
are carrying.) Please remember, what I am looking for is chicken
flavoured TVP, not ordinary TVP.
Are the two distributors which you have found carrying products of
Solbar, or other manufacturer ?

I have gathered more names of companies, and a probable directory of
distributors and manufacturers in the United States (aournd 30 names).
I have inquired to some of these companies, so I hope you could wait
some more. I think the two manufacturers I had inquired from
previously do not carry Solbar, but US-manufactured TVP. I'll if there
is TVP from Australia or closer countries.

Clarification of Question by pnri-ga on 14 Aug 2003 12:34 PDT
Dear Techtor ga,

Just like to make an very IMPORTANT clarification.
Please confirm that the distributors or manufacturers which you have
found are carrying Chicken flavoured TVP and not just ordinary TVP.
Chicken flavoured TVP is a very specialized and specific kind of TVP
which is further processed by adding the chicken flavour into it. Its
application is very limited and is used mainly to substitute real
chicken meat without the user using any real meat. The market volume
of this is less than 1 % of the total market for TVP.
There are many manufacturer and distributors of ordinary TVP in the
world which I know of and none of them have the chicken flavoured TVP
aside from Solbar. Ordinary TVP are mainly use to substitude
PARTIALLY AND NOT WHOLLY meat of chicken or beef ( usually beef) for
hamburgers patties, hotdogs or sausage wherein real meat are present
and the ordinary TVP are used to increase the weight and volume
because these ordinary TVP are tasteless. These ordinary TVP will just
absorb the juice of the real meat in which they are mixed with , to
taste beef or chicken in the final product being consumed by the
consumers. This is NOT the product I am looking for.
The product which I am looking for is already chicken flavoured in its
dry form, size of which is approximately 3mm to 5mm in size. During
application for instant noodle, these are used to substitude actual
freeze dried meat and the bowl of instant noodle will no longer have
any real pieces of meat and the bowl of instant noodle will only have
several pieces of these chicken flavoured TVP to impart the chicken
flavour to the noodle, in order for the noodle to be called chicken
noodle.
These chicken flavoured TVP imparts chicken flavour to the product to
which they are going to be mixed with, instead of getting flavour from
the product to which they are going to be mixed with. This is the MAIN
difference between an ordinary TVP and a chicken flavoured TVP.
Please confirm that what you have found are chicken flavoured TVP and
NOT ordinary TVP.THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT

The reason why I am asking this is because you said you have found so
many distributors and manufacturers TVP ( and you dis not mentioned
chicken flavoured TVP). While in the IFT food trade show recently
held, I only found one which has chciken flavoured TVP , and this one
is a distributor of Solbar.

Rest assured I do know you are looking for chicken-flavored TVP, and
this is what I inquired from the companies. Their online catalogs also
show what kind of TVP they have... and I did find some that carry
chicken TVP. I will wait for other companies to reply, then I will let
you know what I've found.

I'll just give you a progress report. So far only four companies have
replied that they can ship chicken-flavored TVP to the Philippines.
I'm waiting for the rest.

Request for Question Clarification by techtor-ga on 20 Aug 2003 11:00 PDT
Two more companies have responded and one has positively said it can
ship to the Philippines. The other is asking for volume though, so I
take it as being able to ship to the Philippines. That brings the
number of prospects up to six. An Australian company says that they
are willing to ship bacon-flavored TVP, but they may not have
chicken-flavored TVP.

I have not yet received responses from the other companies I inquired
from, though I have their contact information. During the blackout in
the US, my webmail server was out of commission, and I could not be
emailed at that time. The two companies that responded the latest came
after my email was restored. Would it be all right for you if I could
already post these six companies and the rest that have not responded
as an answer? Perhaps you could have better luck with the other
companies. Thank you.

Clarification of Question by pnri-ga on 28 Aug 2003 06:42 PDT
Dear Techtor-ga,
Glad that you have 6 companies that have responded to you and
information of the other companies which you are waiting for response.
Providing the name and contact information of the 6 companies which
has responded positively and the contact information of the other
companies which have not yet responded would be sufficient as the
complete answer to my question.
I would be very satisfied.
