I am interested in the Conressional role in U.S. security policy
towards china. Specifically, I try to claify the security policy into
3 catogaries: strategically, structurally, and crisisly. While my
observation is that the congressional influce decrease from structrual
level, strategical level and crisis level. What I am concerning now
is the congress role in the US strategical perspective to china as a
threat. or the congress influence and "china threat". I am looking for
detailed material.
Actually, it will be appreciated if some one can make a research as a
case study on the"Conress role on china threat" with thousands words
essay, I would pay much more.

Most of what Congress talks about is public information, so typically
the conversation is careful not to offend China. There are leaks about
the closed committee dicussions, but reliable information is unlikely.
The official policy of the USA government is that China is our friend.

Thanks for your comments. According to my study, the US china Policy
is a complex of Engagement and Containment. They have many common
interests in some fields, such as the anti-terrorism, the Korea
Issue, non-proliferation etc. However, there is a strong voice in the
government which regardes China as a potential threat. As to my study
is on the US Congress study, So I am especially concerned on the
Congressional influence on US Security policy towards China. Such as
the influence from the so-called "Blue team', which is a loose
alliance of members of congress, congressional staff and think tank
fellows, conservative journalism etc. Could you please give me more
enlightment on this subject? I am looking forward more comments.

Hi,
I'm interested in your line of study, allthough I'm not sure I can
make much of an answer to your question. The best study that I've
found on Congressional involvement in relatively current U.S. China
policy is "Congress and US China Policy" by Jian Yang. Other than
that study, most research on the area tends to focus on older issues,
like the Taiwan Relations Act or Truman's China policy.

I'm actually writing my senior thesis at Duke University on
Congressional influence on China policy since 1989. Do you know of
any other good studies along these lines? Are you working at a
University?
Thanks,
Jeff

I am doing a research program similar as you. I have read Yang Jian's
book also. His analysis frame is nice but the cases he used are
irrelavant to security issues.while my study concerns on the security
policy, so the cases I used is 1995-1996 Taiwan Strait Crisis,
Congress and Export Control Policy to China; Congressional influece to
"China Threat", and congressional role in the Arms Sales to Taiwan. I
am glad to know that you are studying in the same field and hope to
communicate more with you in the future study.
By the way, do you have any relevant reference mateial for my study?
Thanks for your comments and keep on touch.

Besides:
The analysis mode I used is the Pastor's Inter-branch Analysis Mode
and Roger Hilsman's Political Process Mode. I tried to set some
varities and Hypothesis when analysing the cases. Do you have any
suggestions on the setting of the varieties?
