What do you consider "main cities"? Top 10 based upon population?

I'm looking for New Year's Eve celebrations all around the U.S.,
things to do in the main cities. Things that
are worth flying there for.
I'm also looking for somewhere romantic with snow. I want to do some
sledding and dancing, preferably in or very close by the hotel. I want
the room to be very clean and romantic, with down comforters and a
fireplace. I also want room service, maybe a lake to sit by, a horse
and carriage ride with hot chocolate.
It would also be cool to find a place that's easy to get to, so it's
not terribly expensive. (My boyfriend and I will be flying out south
florida). I don't mind renting a car, but would prefer not to. Country
or city, whatever anyone could think of will be news to me! :) thank
you

Yes, the top ten are fine. They don't necessarliy have to be by
population. Maybe the top ten or 15 places to travel to or visit. Or
even the top 10 or 15 most romantic places to go. My boyfriend and I
have about 3 or 4 days to get away for new years, but I also want this
info for future reference, because we get a few days every few months
to get away. As for new years, I don't want to go too far since we
don't have that much time, but, again, info for any time of the year
would also be appreciated.
