Hi ! Until I started looking for your quotation, I had no idea there were so many chess poems. I haven't found yours, but here are two you might like, both posted at Chessville. Nichlas Breton's dates from the late sixteenth or early seventeenth century - he lived from 1542 - 1626: http://www.chessville.com/misc/The_Chesse_Playe.htm C. A. Escoffery has a similarly structured poem quoted at: http://www.chessville.com/misc/misc_stuff_poem.htm There's even a Web site which claims to be dedicated to chess poems: http://www.totalsurf.com/pages/Chess/poems.shtml So far there only seems to be one, and I can't say it's my style of poem. There's apparently also a famous poem by Borges, but I have not found it quoted in full, and the section I did see appeared to be in a different metre. Good luck - it's a fascinating hunt. |
