I'm looking for the total amount of money the semiconductor industry
(global) has spent on research and development each year for the past
few years, ideally for the past decade or more.

This has been quite harder than most of us thought. It's even possible
the information you seek can only be acquired from sources in the
Internet that you have to pay for, or in offline (printed) sources.

Thanks for your effort. I have been researching into this as well for
a very long time with little results - I would have thought that this
would be easy to find. This is actually a crucial part of my research
project,  but it seems very hard to find data. Meanwhile, I will keep
my question open just in case.

By the way, I have tried to find places where you can buy this
information, and it seems that it would be contained in the reports by
companies that are sold for thousands of dollars.
And I have been through university libraries, again, to no
avail...brainwracking
