I'm looking for a (free) list of all valid five-digit US zipcodes that I can access in electronic form over the web. Just the zipcodes - I don't care what city/state they refer to (but I wouldn't object to having that also - I could easily filter out just the zipcodes). My goal is to have a plain ASCII textfile, but I could convert HTML, PDF, or just about any other source format. |

Hello David, I'm glad I was able to assist you. As noted in the comments, you can download the information here : MYSQL Zip Code Database http://www.darkshire.org/~jhkim/programming/zipcodes/ To find this answer, I simply pointed you to the same files I have used in the past. If you would like to find similar sites/projects like this, you can search Google for : Mysql zip code database ://www.google.com/search?q=mysql+zip+code+database Thanks for the great question! Should you have any further questions, do no hesitate to ask. I will do all I can to help. SgtCory |

Hello davidfilmer, I think finding a free database is going to prove be to be the toughest challenge. This may suit your needs: (it is stored in MYSQL dump format) MYSQL Zip Code Database http://www.darkshire.org/~jhkim/programming/zipcodes/ All you would need to do is 'strip' out the extras you don't need, and you will have a near complete list. Let me know if this meets your needs, as I was unable to locate a complete 'free' resource. Thanks and good luck! SgtCory |

Greetings. Sublime1's comment was of interest, but the information presented on that website was only a small sample of a commercial product. SgtCory's link gave more complete information, and reading a little on that website led me to the author's sorce data at the Census Bureau, http://www.census.gov/geo/www/tiger/zip1999.html I was easily able to extract the 42,000+ zipcodes from this database dump. SgtCory, your information proved most useful. Would you please mark this question as closed? Thanks! (It seems odd to me that USPS doesn't just publish this data. But, no, you gotta go to Census Bureau of all places! go figure) |
