Greetings Google Researchers

I have a small stand alone device which runs under DOS 6.22. It has a
half size motherboard with an unused USB port, an ethernet connection,
a 6 Gbyte hard drive, a Pentium class processor running at 166Mhz and
a 64 Mbyte memory. At present I can archive images to a ZIP using the
parallel port (because IOMEGA have DOS drivers on their website) as
well as color print my reports to any HP 8 or 9 series printer as they
use the DOS compatible HP3/5 language. My problem is that I suspect
that sometime in 2004 parallel port ZIPS and printers will become
obsolete. I have searched the web and found various forums that imply
that there are USB drivers for DOS, however they seem to be concerned
more with the possibility than the practicality. So my questions are,

Where can I go to download a DOS USB driver? (and I have no problem
buying the driver if needed)

What changes will I need to make to the autoexec.bat and config.sys
files

Would I then be able to plug in a USB color printer and make it work

Ditto USB ZIP drive

Ditto USB flash memory (Loyal as I should be to IOMEGA for continuing
with DOS drivers it would be a wonderful bonus to plug in a flash
stick virtual disk and carry that with me instead of a ZIP drive PSU,
cable and disk)

One final point my application software requires 620k of DOS memory so
the USB driver will need to use less than 20k or be able to be loaded
into the high memory.

Thanks and regards

I was initially going to answer this question, and I believe that I
still can, however, some additional information is needed. In
particular, what USB chipset does your device use? Can you provide the
device specifics, such as manufacturer, model, and other
specifications?

If you can provide this information, I will be happy to do some
research for you on your specific device. USB drivers are usually
chipset and device-specific, so that is why the additional information
is necessary.

It is also possible that drivers do not exist for your device.
However, that cannot be ascertained for certain without further
research. I will be happy to do the research, but only if you are
comfortable with the possibility that there is no driver currently
available. In such a case, I would provide you with whatever
information I could so that you could potentially have one developed
for you, although the cost of that may be prohibitive, depending on
your needs.

Thank you, and I look forward to hearing from you.

You might look into using Linux for your device. Then, you could use
the ethernet interface for all your printing and file storage needs.
(just download the images directly, print to any network attached
printer, etc.)
