Microsoft and other high technology companies have accumulated extraordinary amounts of cash. Examine several of these companies ( Cisco, Intel, EMC, Dell, and any others you can find) and analyze why they chose to accumulate these cash balances. Discuss what they did with the cash, what others think they should have done and shluld do now with the cash, and what you think they should do now with the cash they have accumulated. I want to use these answers to develop a business plan for a company. Please provide a detailed answer. |

A company like Dell computer 1) sells computers 2) they can use cash to construct computers 3) build sub-assemblies for computers 4) build parts for sub-assemblies 5) do R%D = research and development 6) develop software for computers for themselves and other companies' computers 7) develop OS = operating systems 8) develop and produce a vast aray of computer excessories, peripherals, and computer related stuff 9) move into products completely unrelated to computers = diversity which is good when profits fall worldwide in the computer industry which is cyclical. 10) expand into foreign counties 11) expand into wholesale, middleman, mail order, internet orders, and/or local retail stores. 12) Buy out or gain control of other corporations. There are good reasons why they should not attempt to do all of these. Multi-sourcing is good. Besides in house at every level should be sub-contactors and/or subsidiares, independent suppliers, consulants, even (boo hiss) lawyers. etc. Neil |
