Question ID: 242132
how do i put back "briefcase" utility in my win 2000 pro os.....that
is to say, when i right-click the desktop, the briefcase utility is no
longer listed. i tried running the 2kpro "repair" function, but that
didn't work either. i've got a hunch that installation of sp4 might
have been a bad idea.

Go to the following link and download the TweakUI program.
TweakUI is short for 'Tweak User Interface', and is one of
the Microsoft Power Toys.
http://www.microsoft.com/ntworkstation/downloads/PowerToys/Networking/NTTweakUI.asp

After installing the program according to the directions
on the page, go to 'Start -> Settings -> Control Panel,
and click on TweakUI. Go to the tab labelled 'New', and
place a checkmark next to 'Briefcase'.

This will re-establish 'Briefcase' as one of the options
available when you right-click your desktop, and move your
cursor to the 'New' option. Simply select 'New' -> 'Briefcase',
and a new briefcase will appear on your desktop.

Another option is described in Windows Help:

"On the desktop, right-click My Computer, and then click Explore.
Click the folder in which you want to create the new Briefcase.
On the File menu, point to New, and then click Briefcase."

This allows you to create a new briefcase within any folder
you choose.
