Hi.
As you may have noticed, the Web is overflowing with statistics about
its usage. Thus, the challenge is to isolate useful data and present
it in a meaningful way. Researcher Andrew Odlyzko, formerly of AT&T,
now of University of Minnesota, has written a number of papers
analyzing internet traffic growth. His papers are loaded with
statistics from reputable sources and generally cover internet growth
for the past six years or so.
For a list of Odlyzko's papers, visit:

In particular, the following papers seem particularly relevant
(they're in PDF format, so you'll need the Adobe Acrobat reader):
"Growth of the Internet" (2002)
http://www.dtc.umn.edu/~odlyzko/doc/oft.internet.growth.pdf
"Internet growth: Is there a 'Moore's Law' for data traffic?" (2001)
http://www.dtc.umn.edu/~odlyzko/doc/internet.moore.pdf
"Internet growth: Myth and reality, use and abuse" (2000)

Other good sources:
Cisco Systems has whole page of links devoted to web statistics of
every variety:

Cyber Atlas provides many useful web statistics:

This article, "History of Internet and WWW: The Roads and Crossroads
of Internet History," by Gregory R. Gromov, includes many internet
traffic statistics:

Although it only covers through 2000, the document, "Internet
Evolution," includes a number of statistics that may be useful to you.
It's also in PDF format, so, again, you'll need the Adobe Acrobat
reader:

This web page at Columbia University also has a few interesting
statistics:

I hope this helps. Good luck in your research. |
