61 percent of high school students have asked their parents for one of
these this year. What is it?

This is probably a snippet from a magazine or a survey. Guesses are
welcome, but I'd really like to see a source :)

I'd like to be a ga researcher when I grow up! You're my heroes! (and
Heroines!)
Thanks!
Jeff

Could this be what you are referring to? --

A 1999 survey found that 61% of students in grades 6-12 had asked
their parents for cash in the past week (before they took the survey):

"Complete survey results" (May 2, 1999) [item #9]

If you think this is what you are looking for, please let me know and
I'd be happy to post it as an answer.

P.S.: I hope you do get to be a Researcher eventually!

P.P.S: I know this survey finding doesn't sound exactly like your
question -- but hey, it's worth asking, right? :-)

Sorry, justaskscott - you're correct in saying it doesn't hurt to ask
- but it also doesn't fit the form of the question. I had found a
similar result (referencing the same survey at
www2.armymwr.com/mwr/marketing/tidbits/aug99.html )

So far, I find the tattoo answer the most compelling - after a bit of
research, I find that 10% of teens have a tattoo and another 50% want
one - so it (surprisingly) fits in the range.

I probably won't know the correct answer for a few days (it is from a
radio call-in trivia game) - once I do, I'll dole out accordingly ;)
- oh yes, and at this point, I know that it is NOT cars or cellphones
:)

Regarding becoming a ga-researcher, they've never been accepting
applications when I've looked :( - is there a certain timeframe when
they will be accepting applications? (BTW, "when I grow up" was
tongue-in-cheek :P)

Thanks again!
Jeff

The answer they were looking for was "PDA" or "Palm Pilot."

justaskscott-ga - because you did some good research and found "an
answer" - even though it was not the one I was looking for - go ahead
and post it as the answer and you'll get paid and I'll rate you
highly. (See, you were right - it never hurts to ask!). Ironically, I
record the trivia questions on my pocketpc - so the answer was RIGHT
THERE IN THE PALM OF MY HAND the whole time!)

Hi jefffromgreen-ga,

Ask and you shall receive! (Well, at least I received the go-ahead
from you; I have no idea how many of the students received cash or
PDAs from their parents.)

A 1999 survey found that 61% of students in grades 6-12 had asked
their parents for cash in the past week (before they took the survey):

If I have some time later (perhaps a few days later, like this
weekend), I'll look to see if the PDA statistic is online. I know you
haven't asked me to -- but I'm curious myself!

P.S.: Unfortunately, I have no insight into whether and when Google
Answers will be accepting further applications from prospective
Researchers. You might find it interesting to search Google Answers
on this subject -- a lot of people have been asking recently!

Even though it wasn't the answer I was looking for, you did some good
research and it deserves recognition. Thanks.

Just a guess? I'd say a tattoo.

I'm seeing a lot of references to 61% of high school students want a job.
