during 1958-1963, and his duty assignment was 2511 at this time.

I am unclear as to what you mean by 'duty assignment'. If you are
looking for the MOS 2511, it is a wireman/field wireman. (Military
Occupational Skill)

Their typical job included running communication lines (wires). From
my research this seems to be just as dangerous as any job during the
Korean war, leaving many wounded. These guys often served in a
battalion capacity and offered support to numerous elements.

This MOS didn't change with the years. There were U.S. Marines in
Korea before 1965.

Consider modern day Iraq :: There were U.S. Marines in Iraq long
before the war started, and they will be there longer than history
books mark years for the war. It seems he was in Vietnam during the
time of 'quiet conflict'.
