Hello,

I need to "convert" a big lotus notes database in a printable and
designed Quark xpress (5 pc or mac) document. I found that the best
theorical way to do it is to export the database in an xml file and
reimport it in Quark Xpress. I read everywhere that'is easy and
possible, but I never find a complete tutorial (with example and
complete code reference) on how to import an xml file in QuarkXpress.

Thanks

Hello,
I don't know if Quark XPress has a built-in XML import function, but
there are several external solutions out there:

Atomik Roundtrip
http://www.easypress.com/products/roundtrip/features.epml

Very expensive!
Purchasing from Currency Single licence 5-user licence
10-user licence
Europe (excl. UK) EURO 5,495 15,423 23,173
The Americas US DOLLAR 4,495 16,119 24,219
UK & Rest B.POUNDS 3,495 9,950 14,950

And this one:

XPress XML 2.0
http://www.attd.com/xml/products.html#xpr

A lot more cheaper:
XPress XML 2.0 for Mac CA$75 (approx. US$50)
XPress XML 2.0 for Win CA$75 (approx. US$50)

You can try any of those products, tell me if this infomation is
useful to you and I will post it as an answer.

Regards.

Hi _leo_-ga,

Interesting nickname. Hard to spell... :)

Now about your question... I found a company that provides conversion
services between over 5000 different computer systems and 900
different software packages, but I'm not 100% certain it's what you
need. That's why I post this info as a clarify request rather than an
answer.

Here's some of the software that this company claims to deal with:

LOTUS 1-2-3 (PIC)
LOTUS 1-2-3 FOR WINDOWS V1
LOTUS 1-2-3 V1.A
LOTUS 1-2-3 V2.X
LOTUS 1-2-3 V3
LOTUS 1-2-3 V4.0, 5.0
LOTUS APPROACH FOR WINDOWS V3.0
LOTUS FREELANCE GRAPHICS FOR DOS VER 4.
LOTUS FREELANCE PLUS 3.01
LOTUS MANUSCRIPT 1.0
LOTUS MANUSCRIPT 2.0,2.1
LOTUS PRINT FILES
LOTUS WORD PRO 96 EDITION
LOTUSWORKS 1.0

QUARK EXPRESS 1.10L (MACINTOSH)
QUARK EXPRESS 2.0 (MACINTOSH)
QUARK EXPRESS 3.0 (MACINTOSH)
QUARK EXPRESS 3.1 (MACINTOSH)
QUARK EXPRESS 3.2 (MACINTOSH)
QUARK EXPRESS 3.3 (MACINTOSH)

I cannot tell you how much it will cost because they do not list any
prices, but this is understandable considering the multitude of
factors that could influence the price (difficulty of convertion, file
sizes etc.).

Because I cannot be 100% sure that they can do the conversion that you
need and that you're actually looking for this kind of service, I will
post their websites (they're identical in content):

http://pivar.com and http://convert.com

If you're searching only for a way to do the job yourself please tell
us or if this company is not what you were looking for any reason,
please tell us why.

If the information I posted is what you were looking for, please be so
kind and tell me so I can post it as an answer. Thank you.

Regards,

ldcdc-ga

Hi,
Sorry I was not clear enough in my original question.
1. the database is a contact database, published and updated every 3
months, so I must find a way to automatically convert it, and not use
another company to do it.
2. I already tried the different plug-ins, but I couldn't figure out
exactly how it works and which one is relevant for my problem, that's
why I need somebody who already tried it and can explain which plug-in
is good, and why, and step by step explain what I need to do to
automatically create 100+ xpress pages from an xml file.
Thanks

Hello,
Can you export your database to XML? If you can, please, post (if
possible) some records so I can test some of the plug-ins I posted.

Regards.

Hum, I don't have access to the data right now, but a simple xml file
will do it, i.e.

<record>
<name>morane</name>
<firstname>bob</firstname>
<address>2, av. Henri-Dunant</address>
</record>

off course with more than one record, and a complexe QuarkXpress
layout.
