Hi
I need to find out some global statistics on fathers.... the specific
questions are:
- Approximately how many fathers are there in the world?
- Approximately how many men become fathers every year?
- Approximately how many of these are becoming fathers for the first
time?
- How old was the youngest new father in the world (and who was he?)
- How old was the oldest man to father a child in the world (and who
was he?)
- What is the average number of children that men father in a lifetime
(global average)?
- What is the average age that men become fathers for the first time
(global average)?
- What percentage of all men become fathers during their lifetime
(globally)?

Hi tombeardshaw,

Following extensive research I have conducted it’s becoming
increasingly obvious to me that the “global” statistics as you have
requested them are not so easy to find. I have managed to obtain the
information regarding the youngest father, and the oldest father,
however, due to cultural differences in the various countries of the
world I’m facing extreme difficulties extracting the remaining data
you have requested.

Extracting the data for the United States alone is quite difficult,
however, I would be happy to research and obtain that information for
you if you so desire. Please let me know if that would suffice.

Regards.

Thanks for this - the oldest/youngest would be very helpful
It's interesting that you have confirmed my suspicions that the data
collection on fathers is very poor. I wonder if you might be able to
extract data from global stats on children, average family size etc.
e.g. To find out how many fathers there are in the world = number of
children/average children per father? Or are these unavailable as
well?
Unfortunately, the stats for the states are not of any use to me.
Perhaps World Development report/UNICEF/UNESCO etc have global data
that will allow you to approximate? Failing that, the number of
children born per year would be a helpful figure to have - I'm sure
that's findable.

Hi tombeardshaw,

Thank you for your clarification.

I will compile as much data as possible and post your answer in the
next few days. Let me know if that is convenient for you. Thanks.

Hi tombeardshaw,

Following further research I have conducted over the past few days,
I’m sorry to inform you that I have not had any success in finding
reliable information that would allow the calculation of the number of
fathers in the world with a reasonable degree of accuracy. Also, I
have not been able to find any details to allow accurate calculation
of the number of children born per year globally. What I have been
able to find is incomplete research which has been conducted on
demographic development allowing crude calculation of the probable
number of children born per year “based on the assumption that the
average woman will, in her lifetime, have the number of children
specified by the birth-rate.”
See http://www.ibiblio.org/mdw/linuxfocus/English/January2003/article275.shtml.

As I mentioned in my previous clarification I have found information
regarding the oldest and the youngest father, however, I would be
doing you an injustice providing you this information only at the
price you have set for your question.

If you would like me to provide you with those details you may like to
close the existing question, and repost another question directed to
me, at an adjusted price, asking for that information only, and I
would be happy to answer.

Alternatively, perhaps another researcher may have better luck than I
have had.

Let me what you decide. Thanks.

Hi
I will do so on return from my holiday in about 2 weeks (I'm literally
walking out of the door now so can't do it immediately - but I will
post the question about youngest and oldest at a different rate)
Many thanks
