This is what I have always thought the lyrics are, but upon further "research", I think I may be totally wrong in places. Hope this is a start though! Not that I'm that hard to please stately(?) when I hit the street it's hum-de-dum (hum-de-dum-de dum) When the hard times hit Hit the Ritz The hardest hit make the best of it (The hardest hit make the best of it, the hardest hit make the best of it) Strong talent stockbroker right to the bottle Sink down with your books and (my friend insists that this says "boomtown") High water realtors arrive With numbers over their eyes Stopwatch hearts Good God I love the party-starved businessmen with stopwatch hearts They don't beat (They tick) They don't beat Good God I love the party-starved businessmen with stopwatch hearts They don't beat They don't beat 'Round that corner Down the street There's a dive where working girls retreat from their hum-de-dum (hum-de-dum-de-dum) So tilt that felt hat to the side Thrift store 3 for .99 Gonna get me one Gonna get me one (Get it every day) Good God I love the party-starved businessmen with stopwatch hearts They don't beat (They tick) They don't beat Good God I love the party-starved businessmen with stopwatch hearts They don't beat They don't beat Gonna get me one (Get it every day) |

I hear much the same as the previous post, but with a few changes (1) I think "stately" is just "lately" (2) I vote for "boomtown" not "book and" (3) I hear "high water realtors of wrath" not "realtors arrived" (4) I thought "Good God I love the party-starved" was "get <x> and let the party <y>". I initially thought <x> was "down" a friend claims that its "high" I think "high" might be it. I can't tell if <y> is "starved" or "start" It almost sounds like starved, but start makes it a complete sentence while starved would have the whole stanza be a fragment. (5) I'm extremely unsure what the line before "sink down with your boomtown" says Something like, Strong tile of stark, broke her right to the bottom ??? I don't know! And just to make my post longer, below is what I written down on my computer before I ever read the previous post by skeen-ga: not that I'm that hard to please lately when I hit the street it's hum de dum when the hard times hit hit the (bit?) the hardest hit, make the best of it [the hardest hit, make the best of it] [the hardest hit, make the best of it] strong, tile of star?? look around to the bottom, sink down with your boomtown high water realtors of wrath with numbers above their eyes stopwatch hearts... get high and let the party start businessmen with stopwatch hearts they don't beat (they tick) they don't beat (they tick) they don't beat get down and let the party start businessmen with stopwatch hearts they don't beat they don't beat grab that corner down the street there's a dive where working girls retreat from the hum de dum (hum de dum de dum) so tilt that felt hat to the side thrift store 3 for .99 gonna get me one strong child of stark? look alright? to the bottle sink down with your boomtown high water realtors of wrath with numbers above their eyes stopwatch hearts get high and let the party start businessmen with stopwatch hearts they don't beat (they tick) they don't beat (they tick) |

Well, here's what I get: Not that I'm that hard to please; lately when I hit the street it's hum-de-dum (hum-de-dum-de dum) When the hard times hit, hit the bricks The hardest hit make the best of it Stroll down a [?], book a ride to the bottom Sink down with your boom town High-roller realtors of wrath with numbers over their eyes Stopwatch hearts Get gone and let the party start Businessmen with stopwatch hearts They don't beat (They tick) They don't beat (they tick) Get gone and let the party start businessmen with stopwatch hearts They don't beat They don't beat Round the corner, down the street, there's a dive where working girls retreat from the hum-de-dum (hum-de-dum-de-dum) So tilt that felt hat to the side Thrift store 3 for .99 Gonna get me one Gonna get me one (and Get done[?] every night) |
