Hello db10-ga,

The use of video conferencing in recruiting is well established and
most recruiters use it. There are lots of articles available about the
advantages of using it for both the candidate and the
recruiter/employer. Many of these are promotional press releases from
video conferencing vendors. There are also lots of articles about how
to prepare for a video interview.

It was a little more difficult to find recruiters who specifically
mention their use of this technology in their recruiting but I’ve
identified a representative selection that will give you an idea of
how executive recruiters, placement agencies, online job boards,
in-house company recruiters and college placement offices use this
technology as part of the recruitment process.

My research also suggests that the technology has become so ubiquitous
that recruiters no longer emphasize it's use because it is simply
assumed that it's part of the virtual recruiting arsenal. If you've
identified specific recruiters you could simply ask them about their
video interview capabilities. The odds are very high that they are
using this technology.

Best wishes for your research project.

Dell Recruiting Process: An Overview
This overview can help you understand Dell's recruiting process, from
the resume submission to the interview and beyond. (Of course, keep in
mind that Dell uses many different methods to recruit and hire
employees - in fact, it would be impossible to identify all such
methods. The following is meant to illustrate only one type of
recruiting method.)
6. Interviews With the Business are Scheduled
The most competitive candidates for the position are scheduled for an
interview with hiring representatives from within the business. These
interviews are most often conducted face-to-face; however, some
interviews may be conducted via phone or video conferencing. The
candidates will usually have several interviews, each with a different
member of the hiring team. The decision is reached by considering the
input from all members of the hiring team. (If you have been selected
to interview at Dell, the InterviewPak provides answers to some
frequently asked questions.)

Online Recruiting Attracts Students and Recruiters
Imagine this: you are online and chatting to three companies that are
simultaneously quizzing you about your career plans. Suddenly, one of
the companies calls you on your mobile and invites you to a
video-conferencing session for an interview on the spot. You conclude
the chat session with the other two interviewers. Then, after 20
minutes meeting the first company's executives on a number of
continents, the recruiter makes you a job offer.
Think that's far-fetched? Think again. European business schools are
eager to participate in online recruiting events that bring together
their M.B.A. students and corporate recruiters in custom-built chat
rooms. There's something in it for the companies, too: ready access to
hundreds of potential hires.

Virtual Video Interview (VVI)
The USF Career Center and the College of Business have partnered with
Interview USA, Inc. to bring a new way of interviewing to USF
students. The Virtual Video Interview is the newest service offered by
the USF Career Center. This service is the first of its kind on any
college campus.
Unlike videoconferencing, a VVI allows the interviewee to polish their
answers well before the employer sees it. This service also provides
the employer with the opportunity to view the virtual interview at
their convenience from any location with access to the internet. The
virtual video interview is used in the early stages of the interview
process. While employers will continue to conduct the final
decision-making interviews in person, they can take advantage of this
cost-effective and convenient recruiting method for their initial
screening interview.
