i downloaded and ran the Blastfix program
(http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.blaster.worm.html)

on a number of XP and 2000 PCs. On most it worked, but on 3 it just
crashes with a unexpectedly quit message.

All the pcs have the ms patch applies before I got BlastFix.

If these 3 machines in questions are running WinXP, Did you choose to
disable the system restore first?
Have you tried running blastfix in safemode?

Thanks,

If those PC's have an internet connection you can also track and
remove the worm using this free on-line virus-scan:

http://housecall.trendmicro.com

I've used it successfully to remove W32.Blaster.Worm on several PC's.
