You should notice that I have asked recently about programs already made to view the solar system on any given date. To my perception (not saying much maybe) I have not found anything that works, or works to my needs. Therefore, I would like to get some program that can be set up to work in 3-D and handle a few formulas and give a view of the solar system--- sun and 6 planets (no moons or satelites) on any given date. I am not too sharp on computer things, so I hope you take that in consideration. I am not programming stars or comets. I just want the sun and the 6 closet planets. I need know how they were for any given date-- present, future and back as far as 1900. I have heard of Java (I don't know beans-- sorry for the pun) Thanks. John |

Here are a couple of programs that you may find satisfactory: "SimSolar" will provide a 3-dimensional view of the solar system for any given date between Feb 23, 1915 and Feb 25, 2086, and animate the planetary movement starting from the given date: http://www.pwr-tools.com/simsolar/index.htm It's free to try for 30 days, US$12.95 for a single license to use after 30 days. "Home Planet" has an Orrery function to display the planetary positions for any given date from 4712 BC, to essentially infinity (depends on your computer). However, it cannot animate the motion of the planets, as it is actually intended to be a terestrial viewer: http://www.fourmilab.to/homeplanet/hp3.html It's completely free. Hope this helps, aht-ga |

You may want to try Celestia. You can view the solar system, galaxy, universe, or use an add-on to create solar system to your own specifications (minus moons, for example). It is free to use. Celestia http://ennui.shatters.net/celestia/ |
