When using Norton Utilities to scan for viruses as I periodically do,
an error statement comes back stating "critical error in virus scan,
unable to complete" and then it stops scanning. I have never had this
problem before. What can I do to correct this?

When Norton Anti-Virus encounters an internal error, the message box
it pops up should have a numeric code (eg 1005,4) -- on NAV 2003 this
is in the lower left corner of the message box, I'm not sure if this
is the exact location on other versions. If you can find out the exact
numeric code the full details of the problem, and how to solve it, can
be looked up on the symantec website.

You are actually not using Norton Utilities to scan for viruses; you
are using Norton AntiVirus.

Have you tried uninstalling and then reinstalling Norton AntiVirus,
using your product CD to reinstall?

To be sure you do not currently have a virus infection before you
reinstall, you can use Norton AntiVirus on line. Go to
 http://www.sarc.com/
and follow the "Check for Security Risks" icon link, which I see in
the right column just over halfway down the page.
